Zep's "How The West Was Won" on DVD-A!

I've been hoping for this since the CD set came out.  Just bought it today, haven't had it in the player yet.  The DVD-A is a 2 disc set w/hirez MC & stereo mixes.

If this improves on the (reportedly good) CD I'll be in heaven.[/i]

Interesting, MCA.  I have a sinking feeling, knowing my luck, that the reviewer may be right.  Still I'm anxious to try it.

The same site has a review of Crowded House that is spot on:  this is a fantastic DVD-A, both technically & musically.  I hated to admit that as I had a bias towards them, mistakenly thinking they were just cheesy pop crap.  How wrong I was.

Incidentally, they rave about Geoff Tates solo DVD-A.  I bought it yesterday before the Queensryche concert but didn't get a chance to listen to it ( and you definately don't wanna listen to rock on a 'wimpy' home system right after getting out of a concert! ).  Maybe I'll get them both played tonite.

That means I'll have to quite talking about music here and log off and listen to some!

I read both of those reviews also and was excited to pick them both up. I liked Crouded House way back when and have always liked Queensryche, but have not heard any of Geoff Tates solo stuff. Unfortunatly, Best Buy did not have either of these titles in stock  :( .
I did not want to go away empty handed, so I picked up James Taylor-October Road and Alison Krauss Live on SACD.
Tell me what you think of The Geoff Tate CD when you get a listen to it.
Have you heard the new Queensryche CD? I heard it is also coming out on DVD-A and wonder if it is anything I should get excited about  :o

I've been wanting the Allison Kraus & Union Station disc for awhile, but my local BB is out of stock.  How's the James Taylor?  I've been meaning to buy those two latest ones.

I haven't heard Queensryche's Tribe yet.  They did play a few from that one at their concert last nite:  I really only liked one of them (the title track) but to be fair, it's hard to judge from hearing it live.  I've heard that the disc will be out on DVD-A, so maybe I'll wait til then to try it.

I'll definately report my opinions when I get a chance to hear it, probably later on tonight! :D

Cool!  Looks like I have some shopping to do this weekend.  I also want to grab the Alison Krause disc.  Any word on the Rush discs yet?

I have the JT-OR on cd.  It is okay, but I find myself listening to his other albums more.

Is Geoff Tate the guy that used to be on Access Hollywood?? :?

Sat down and listened to the JT-OR SACD last night. It is recorded very well and sounds even better than the redbook CD. The surround mix is tastefully done, with just enough going on in the back speakers to let you know it is there.
I will cue up Alison tonight and let you know what I think.
Oooh, Rush, hope they do that one right! Any idea what disks they are planning to release?

'Fraid I haven't heard which Rush discs.

I did listen to one disc of the 2 DVD-A set; I don't have time tonite for a full review, but suffice it to say that the MC tracks run the gamut from Brilliant (one track:  Going to California) and awful (the rest  ).  All you can hear on most of em is Page; Plant & even Bonham get drowned out ( :o ).

I'll listen to the other disc this weekend and report back.

The Geoff Tate one is very hard to describe- I'm not sure what I think after one listen.  Interesting, maybe more 'admirable' that 'lovable'.  I can't give it an unqualified endorsement, but I will play it a couple more times and get back on that one, too.
