so long poloroid

I heard on NPR that poloroid film will no longer be produced. Guess that means the 8x10 processor I have is completely worthless now.

I loved type 55 4x5, not only to proof composition and exposure, but if you overexposed  by a stop and cleaned the gunk off the neg, you could make really nice enlargments from them.

The actual poloroid prints would take on an interesting look over time if you didn't use the protective coating swabs. They would oxidize (I'm guessing) and develop a sort of metallic sheen.

I shall miss Type 55 greatly as well. I just bought six boxes to tide me over a while, it's a pity one can't freeze it like traditional films. It's such a unique product, I love the negatives quality. At $85 a box for 20 sheets, I'm a little surprised they aren't making enough profit. Sigh, we're such a minuscule market we're not worth pursuing anymore. The writings on the wall unfortunately. We needed big rolls of continuous tone  film at work (40" wide x 10 yards long) and I had devil of a time finding any. Luckily Bergger BPFB had a new production run and we scored two rolls and had it shipped over from Europe.

Hey!

  Oh no.....

I knew that this day will come for Polaroid :shake:

I don't get to work much with LF cam lately but it won't be the same now when shooting with 4X5 :(

Well, it is a sign of time :?

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

I thought they had stop making it years ago when Polaroid went under.

I was out the other day with a few other photographers - We laughed when we saw girl with 4 boxes of polaroids- (obviously a student)

Before digital, I was absolutely dependent on poloroid. I had to shoot one and stop and look at it to mull over the composition, lighting and cropping. In fact I sort of miss it, even w/ shooting to a laptop, which can be a pain, especially outdoors.  I rarely shot 35mm (most work was 2 1/4 or 4x5) but I even had a Nikon F3 w/ a Forscher poloroid back for when I needed it. I'm old enough to pre-date Powerpoint, and occasionally people need actual slides for slide shows.

It was an amazing product. I actually have a degree in chemistry, and I have no idea of how it worked. Here's to Edmund Land!

Hey!

Yeah, I know what you mean. It will be missed here too. Now shooting LF won't be same again. :(

That's Mr. Land with the SX-70 a great looking polaroid cam :D

Yes, it was an amazing product/invention in photography history.  :D

Take care,

I won't be missing it too much.  Buying all those Polaroid sheets when I got my 4x5 was largely a waste.  Sheet films are so much nicer to work with, better quality, cleaner image and cheaper!  Type 55 is okay, it is sorta cool that you get an image and a negative right away; but it's ultimately not worth it.  The Polaroid color films were even less impressive. I kinda liked the sepia toned print film, but overall I found Polaroid to be very half-ass. :dunno:

As we have learned, an Xphile's "half-ass" is the mainstream's "cool, I want one".
