Hi there,
Been dipping my hands in the DIY and am now ready to try at it a Preamp, full function with XLR input/output as well as single ended, with remote.
Looking for a kit or design that is known to be good...

Thanks in advance.
Tuan

Remote everything or just vol?

If you just need vol then you can use something like John Chapman's (Bent Audio) remote dact kit.  Bent is in Canada so if it makes you feel more comfortable you can buy it from Kevin Haskins at DIYAudio.  I've ordered a DACT remote through Kevin from John, but also ordered from each individually in the past.

I suspect many preamp kits could easily be retrofitted for the dact remote kit.  I stuffed on in a hagtech clarinet (see http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=38544.0).

Hi Tuan,

You might want to look at the Audio Note Kit L3 linestage. Although it has only XLR output, not input. If you're patient, you will be able to get it with full function remote as well.

Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with sales of the kits but I am very familiar with them and find them exceptional.

Thanks for the replies...
I talked to John at Bent Audio, but I guess what I need won't be a great fit just yet with his products...in regards to the Audio Note...sounds like a good option...especially the L2 as I would like to keep this project at or around $1000.

thanks!

if you don't need a "full" kit, I have used the remote modules from dantimax.dk before and they are very high quality.  The input 2 has full switching of balanced and SE inputs and outputs, and they have a balanced attenuator board as well. They also have linestage modules, or you could use the well regarded Aikido kit from tubecad.com...

I am not associated with any of these companies, but I have experience with their products and service both of which are top-notch.

The Audio Note L2 is really a great piece. I run a highly modified piece here. The reason I didn't mention it was due to the fact you mentioned you were looking for balanced outputs and the L2 has only single ended outputs.

Hey!

Ditto for Audio Note Kit stuffs here :D

OK maybe I'm a bit bias here since I've been using my Audio Note M1 Phono pre(standard line/non-kit) since 1998 :D If they had a kit like these back than I might have gone with their kit.

Definitely a good simple no-non sense tubed pres there. :D

Take care,
