Margules Daleth in the house!
« on: 21 Feb 2008, 06:45 pm »
Woo hoo!  It showed up today!  Since it's about 10 degrees I think I'll let it come to temp before I mess with it.  Hopefully this weekend (if not before) I'll have time to set it up and make sure it works and stuff.  I'm pretty stoked, though- it looks mint, and I've been trying to find one for a year and a half or two years.  For those unfamiliar with the Daleth it's a 5.1 channel analog preamp.  It has 2 x 5.1CH inputs & 3 x 2CH inputs, with onboard analog bass management for all channels.  It doesn't really do video, although it has some composite inputs and an single output, mostly for OSD's, I think.

On paper it looks like just the ticket, but we'll see! 8)

Dang, that does sound nice.

Anything that advances the combination system gets me all jacked up.

I had  been hoping that IRD would come out with that preamp with HT passthrough, LFE connection and analog bass modules.

Why so hard to find?  Out of production?

I predict some happy listening is right around the corner.

The Daleth will do the audio portion off a video soundtrack just right.  The analog 2ch into 5.1 works great too for music anyway.

Nice score Rob.

I don't think it's out of production, but Margules is a Mexican company with (apparently) very few dealers/distributors in the US.  So mostly I've been searching the used market, and they don't come up for sale very often.

Thanks, EDS_, I'm anxious to try it out.  The only fly in the ointment is that the manual doesn't seem to have any instructions in English!  I'm hoping I can hunt up an English manual online, or failing that, I hope setup is intuitive.  Bass management seems like the only thing that might require some experimentation.

Lastly, the unit itself is very attractive, but the remote is pretty clunky, almost comical.  But if it's works well I'll be happy.  If the Daleth works out in my system I'll probably incorporate a universal remote, anyhow. :)

That's something I'm anxious to try, too.  I'd read that it has an analog circuit to derive 5.1 from 2CH sources.  If it's effective, great- I'll try it.  Worst case if it's really gimmicky and unnatural I'll just listen to 2CH stuff in 2 channels and MC stuff in multichannel.

Man, haven't really had time to put it thru its paces yet.  I had to make up a few classes that I missed d/t the flu, plus I just got a new Hattori knife that I've been playing with!  Hopefully I'll get it connected and try it out before too long. :)
