I was wondering if anyone has heard the new version.  I just found out yesterday that they recently rerecorded the complete session in the same church with some updates and revisions.  Is that old magic still there, or have they destroyed it?

I have to get this one. I got the original on CD and vinyl.  I imagine it comes out on vinyl too but it may take some time.  I am still waiting on the Whites Off Earth Now LP to arrive.

It was slated for 28th arrival but it was waiting for me when I got home.    The band has evolved and the guests add to the whole to create a more "insightful" interpretation of the original songs.  There is a lot more than Margo singing and I like most in their new way.  However, I absolutely favor the original version of Blue Moon on account of the fact that it was our couple's dance song at our wedding.  Vic Chestnut's rendition isn't good to dance to.  I also watched the DVD.  Dare I say it but I actually like the 5.1 mix better than the 2 channel CD.  Natalie sounded better on DVD than on CD.   Anyway, the original (especially on vinyl) and the new Trinity are keepers.  BTW, Margo is looking fantastic in her mid 40s.

I picked it up today at Borders, $14.99, and have listened to the cd twice already, I really like the new feel!  The original will always be my favorite as well, no doubt of that but, this really works as an older, more experienced interpretation.  Heck, I might even grow to like Ryan Adams

I have both the CD and DVD, but haven't watched the DVD yet.  I'm a huge Junkies fan, saw them just last year in Kent, OH, and plan to see them in Columbus next month, if possible.  That being said, my buddy Rob and I were listening to it the other day and he made a comment that stuck with me:  "you can't hear the church any more".  It's just not the magical recording that the original was.  I like some of the new mixes and takes, but I will likely play it infrequently.  In fact, as much as I was into the original, it's gotten me back into it even more.  I have a significant investment in my 5.1 system so I'm looking forward to the DVD and its sonics.  Walking After Midnight is my favorite new take....And yes, Margo looks great all the time.

Well I am om my fourth spin and still don't know what to think of this CD. I don't feel the guests add anything great to the mix Vic seemed out of place everywhere except Postcard Blues

I have not bought the new version, and like the old one just fine, so I will likely stick without it.

I met Margo around 15 years ago, she is a friend of my aunt and uncle who used to live in Guelph.  She did not look bad then either!

this is a good recording...(the original, that is).

what is unique about it...the whole thing was recorded with a single stereo microphone set in the blumlein pattern.  it was an AMS ST250, which is now the Soundfield ST-250...which has been discontinued and replaced with the ST-350.
Its a B format Ambesonic stereo mic.  KICK ASS...., I used to have one.

After a few more weeks with this album (again, I'm a Junkies junkie, I listen to them constantly) and after watching/listening to the 5.1 DVD, I have to say that I'm 180 degrees from my last comments.  This album/DVD has grown on me to the point where I can separate it from the orginal, and love it for what it is.  The recording quality is excellent, and I've even come to love the particiaption by Natalie, Ryan, etc.  I especially like Ryan Adams take on 200 Miles.  Very kewl.

The 5.1 DVD is great and gives you a visual of the recording space, etc. that helps even when just putting on the redbook.

I agree with teb_b and am really enjoying this album and DVD. 

True... the sound of the church does not come through nearly as much, but this album offers other things that the original does not (including the guest singers).

A lot of the Cowboy Junkies concerts are available for free on archive.org, including the Massey Hall show where they played the Trinity Sessions album straight through.  Unfortunately the recording they have doesn't sound nearly as good as live performance, though from what I've read the CBC also recorded the concert and that mix is a lot better.

Funny this came up again - I'm listening to it this minute at my office.

I love the DVD through the speaks though I only have stereo speakers, and the CD is fantastic.  The mellow, layered guitar work is stellar.  I played some for my mom and showed her the DVD last night and she was choked up.

I think it's a total winner.  Including the DVD at CD price is the kind of "value added" package the music industry should be looking toward.
