2b-lp turn off noise
« on: 8 Feb 2008, 02:47 am »
Hi,
I just purchased a 2b-lp pro that had been factory modified with a power switch in place of the headphone jack and rca's in place of the xlr's.  When I turn off the amp there is a fairly loud, midrange frequency squeal, not a low level, low frquency thump as I have experienced with other amps at power down.  It is loud enough that I flinch when I hear it! Is this typical turn off behavior for this amp?  I have a B60 that shuts off quietly.  Thanks for any insight.

Hi,

Bryston has a free modification for the 2B LP amps that eliminates the turn-off noises on older amplifiers.
Please contact service.

Hi
I am owner of one old 2B-LP (on back is label with only 2b) and I have same problem with power off. It is sound like "zzzip". I found two type schematics on Bryston site and this is version without relay (see first page).
Does circuit with relay can solve this problem and what kind (voltage) is this relay. Too, I have some noise when nothing is conneected on input. I use old 1B preamplifier who is very nice.
What about sound:
Nice, transparent and much better than my Rotel RB850.
Thanks in advance for help

Hi Duka;

Thanks for your recent inquiry.  Adding a mute relay to your amplifier is not difficult.  If the amplifier is under warranty, it will be done at N/C except for one-way shipping.  If it is past its waranty perriod, the modification will be chargeable at a nominal rate, plus shipping.  If you let me know your location, I can tell you the proper Service Office to send it to.  Thank you for choosing Bryston.

Sincerely,
Chris Russell

Hi
I think this is not under waranty (serial number is 200005). I am not first owner. Second I am in Montenegro, Europe and it is expencive to send it in Canada. If you can recommend service near me it can be nice but I am familiar with electronic and maybe I can add circuit. Too, I mean amp needs recaping.
Thanks
Duka

Hi James!

My B60 has this noise too, however I don't care.

I was told that Bryston let the relay intentionally out because of sound degradation caused by the relay. Is this true?

I do not think so but I will check.

Hi
Does anyone solved this problem? What about relay, for what voltage is this?
Here is schematics:

Look second page.
