Hey Rick... nice combo :D. I bet it would look amazing in one of your veneers.

Have you considered a 3 way with the same speakers but in a tower? If the two W's were ported, how low would they extend? 40 Hz? Sealed? 50 Hz?

Sure we could do that. With a tuning like the SSR it would have the same anechoic / nearfield response, -3db @45hz and -10db@33hz. Sealed is -3db @64hz and -10db @48hz in this design. If you port several in an array they magically become -3db@18hz in-room according to the "optimistic" claims by other designers

How would SS3CC compare to vertical (angled) ssr in the center?

If you keep the SSR in the vertical position and can locate it on-axis with your listening height you'll be fine. The SS3CC is for situations where the cabinet height is restricted and adds the outer woofers to increase the output capability  (versus only using the 5" as a woofer in a 2-way). The smaller midbass also slightly increases the vertical listening window in case the center isn't right at ear level.

Rick, very curious as to the dimensions/specifications of this seriously robust-looking center channel. 8)

24" wide by 12" high and 12" deep. The sealed box is -3db @ 64hz and -10db @ 48hz. Impedance is 5 ohms. Drivers are dual 7" Scan-Speak Revelators, 5" Revelator midbass, and Fountek ribbon tweeter.

What is the cost of the reference center channel as a kit with 7" and 5" Revs?  Also, could this design be made into a 3-way tower with a WMT set up?  Would the same crossover from the center channel be useable for this design, or would a new crossover have to be done for using this as the L&R channels?  And last question (more of an opinion), would you gain enough in going with the 3 way design for L&R to justify the extra cost or does the SSR do it all so that a 3 way isn't really needed?  Thanks for your time.

$900 for the kit including shipping. It could be made into a 3-way tower but there would be some changes to the crossover. If the L/R speakers were a single woofer then I would stick with the SSR. With dual woofers it would be a step up from the SSR and worth the extra cost.

I've read some about them but don't think the drivers are shipping yet from the factory.
