New GIK Acoustics Pillar Trap now available!
« on: 1 Feb 2008, 10:25 pm »
Took a little longer than we expected but the Pillar Trap is now available.

http://www.gikacoustics.com/gik_elite_pillar.html

Through the end of February, we'll be offering introductory pricing of $275 each in your choice of stains and Guilford fabric.

We've also added another finish option to the Pillar and the 242 Elite.  Piano Black Gloss is now an option for a small upcharge.

Thanks for your support.

Those are nice.

End tables would be an excellent addition to the line.  Then coffee tables!

Just great.  Now you offer the piano black.  :duh:  I just received my Elite 242's with the cherry stain but the piano black would have been a much better choice for me.  Oh well the Elites have passed the WAF test and my soundstage is much better.

Congrats Bryan and Glenn! Another innovative product. More handsome than a tube trap.

Am I missing the dimensions of these somewhere?
How tall, etc?
However tall the customer desires?

They  look neat Bryan. Finally an acoustical treatment that complies with the Wife acceptance factor. Will you bring a sample along to the next get together you attend ?

Hmmm, looking good.  However, I've scoured your website and cannot find their dimensions (or weight).  Also, any way to order Guilford of Maine fabric swatches?

Hi Guys.

Thanks for the comments.

I'll get exact dimensions later but they're approx 16x16x48".  I'll have to find out the weight.

MB

We originally weren't going to do the piano black as an option due to the additional cost and time required but at the last minute we decided to do it.  We figured as long as we were offering it on the Pillar, we might as well on the 242 Elite also.

Tim,

I'll see if I can talk Glenn into shipping 1 or 2 of these babies up here for the GAS gang to see/hear.  I'd be happy to take suggestions for stain and cloth color for the samples in case anyone is thinking about picking them up

Dean,

Not sure we'll be doing coffee tables. Small end tables might be an option but that starts getting REALLY expensive to ship.

All, we don't have the special built into the web site cart.  If you're wanting to order the special, give Glenn a call at the 800 number on our site.  If it's after hours, you can drop a message to me here, or my email bryan.p AT gikacoustics.com, or you can use the website comment form on the site and we'll get back to you.

Thanks again for the interest.

What would be the general appropriate placement in the room to gain the sonic benefit? Should they be placed in a corner, front wall, back wall, or anywhere it's convenient? Are they intended for bass trapping or all frequencies?

Thanks much,
Bob

Hey Bryan, how does the performance of the Pillars compare to your tri-traps?

They'd be most effective in the corners.  However, there are times where they're very useful in other places depending on the situation.  Also, if corners are not available, we take what we get sometimes.

As for the effectiveness, they have not been through the lab yet.  In theory, they should actually be more effective in the very low frequencies as there is more surface area and they have greater thickness no matter the angle of incidence of the waves.  They're solid absorbtion inside so you get a full 16" all through and approx 22" at the diagonal.

They have a reduced high frequency absorbtion component but will still absorb some in that range.

Any possibility they could be custom-built at ~2-3 ft high, instead of 4 ft?  I have a difficult room, which could accommodate a shorter version (to place behind my ML Summits) and get past the wife if they hold plants!  I realize their bass absorption would be proportionally less, but it'd be better than NOTHING.

No problem at all and there is NO charge to make them smaller. The only thing, due to shipping more then anything else, we can not make them bigger then 4" high. If you would like to order a custom size drop me a email through our company website and we can go from there.

Thanks to all of you guys for your support,
Glenn

Very nice guys.   :thumb:

I also like the fact that you have the GOM fabrics available.

When do you expect to have the lab data?

We are not even sure it is needed in this case as the mass is more then the Tri Trap, so we feel as it tops that.

Hey Glenn, just wondering how much the pillar traps weigh?  I am kind of curious to know how they might work as monitor stands, though my monitors weigh 38 pounds a piece so it would probably not be the safest setup (top heavy).  It seems to me that that could be an interesting idea though, integrated monitor stands/bass traps.

I am going to need to check this when I get to the office, but I believe it is around 45 pounds. I would think they would hold 75 to 100 pounds without any problems at all. So yea they would work pretty well for speaker stands.
