Shanling T80 Tube CD Player?
« on: 1 Feb 2008, 06:58 am »
Maybe it's here and I'm missing it, but I don't see a lot written about the Shanling T80.  Does anyone here have one?  I'm curious to get some opinions about this player.  Given the convenience & quality of servers like the Squeezebox, I may only have one more CD player in me, but I think there is still one! :)

Geez, don't everyone all talk at once.   Guess there aren't a lot of 'em in the rigs of AC'ers...

There's a CDP made by Jungson that has me intrigued, but again there doesn't appear to be much written about it.  It seems that way with many Chinese products.  Guess the only way to know is take the plunge and FOFYS.

Yeah, seems like it.  With music servers like the Squeezebox getting better all the time, I wonder how long the mid-priced CD player market can hold out?  At the cheap end some people are gonna just want something simple.  At the high end some are just looking for boutique stuff that they can brag about to their buddies.  I think the middle ground is falling to the servers.

I have a keen grasp of the obvious, huh?

I don't own the Shanling T80, but I did spend a few hours with it on a demo.  Sound was quality was great, fit & finish was gorgeous.....but I found that it was finicky about what discs it was willing to play.  All the discs that I gave it were in perfect shape and play with no problems in my other players.  Roughly 15% of the time the Shanling either didn't want to play a disc or it would only play after opening and closing a second time.

Too bad, I loved the sound, hated it's manners.
