For NOH with remote control kit, it comes with a small transformer to supply DC power for the infrared remote control kit.   My wife always complaint that I have too many cables running around.  Is it possible to make it battery powered?  Would the power consumption eat up the battery quickly?

This has come up a few times and you already guessed the answer - the battery would not last too long. Although it would depend on the amount you use it when the knob is turning it draws quite a bit of current so it would kill all but a large battery quite fast. Sorry bout that.....
