Old lady system

I went to look at a house that was for sale today and the lady had a vinyl rig running.  She was pretty old and seemed pissed to be selling.  The first thing I see walking in the door is a pair of stand mounted monitors better placed then my speakers.  They were at least five feet from the back wall.  So this is what she was rockin
Adcom GPP-750 pre
Audio Alchemy om150 amp
Stereo Dynamic 300ti speakers

I could not tell what the tt was.  Any of that stuff good?  I read some good reviews.

Damn.  What was she playing?  Unless it was a system set up by her son or nephew or someone else, you found one of the last of a dying generation!  Her system is not per se super hifi but she has some savvy tastes.  Most if not all components were somewhat rated back in the days.   :thumb:

Sure the speakers aren't the Sound Dynamic 300ti. They were quite famous in their day, even Harry Pearson of The Absolute Sound lauded their sound and bought a pair.

it was Sound Dynamics.  It was jazz I did not recognize.  I guess it was her late husbands.

I could live with that system ok; most of the componets were noted as over-achievers in their class... however I would have lost that Adcom and added the AA DLC pre to it... But that would be tough to play vinyl on unless you also had the VITB or something with it...

I had a similar experience, my fiancee and I were looking at a house, and stashed away in a side room in the basement were at least 3-400 vinyl albums. I didn't have time to look through, but the house was 75 years old, and it's clear none of the albums had been touched for at least 10 years or so. We weren't really interested in the house, but I'm still contemplating contacting the seller to see about taking that vinyl off his/her hands. Who knows what you could find in there, and what could be easily cleaned up and enjoyed for years.

I am going back to look at the place on Thursday.  I will have to see what the TT is.  Maybe there is going to be a estate sale.  I would like a cheap TT to try out.  I was glad to see that she used it!  Pissed me off that her speakers were placed better then mine though. :duh:
