Hello guys

My new sub does not come with feet. No rubber nubs, no nuttin'.

The manufacturer felt that spikes, cones, nubs had no benefit to placing the sub down flat. Really, what does he know

I have the sub flat on carpet over concrete at the moment. Anyone care to share their experiences with different types of footing?

My sub came the same way. At first I had it just like you carpet over concrete and that worked just fine it's not going to go anywhere 28"X17"X16" and 120lbs. I had these little rubber feet from some thing I was working on about 1/4" or 5/16" thick by 3/4" square with a little glue on one side. They work well for me setting right on the concrete. I got these feet at Radio Shack.

I used Mapleshade Triplepoints with my big SVS box sub - I thought they tightened things up a bit. Bought em cheap on Audiogon.

Oh yes, I also had two 22lb. granite slabs on top pinning the sub and the Triplepoints to the floor.

I've used these "Unhappy Balls"  with great success, though my floor is hardwood. Cheap and made with a super non-vibrational material, norbornene. Balls come as a pair, one Unhappy  and one Happy ball. Buy two pairs of large ones, toss the Happy Balls, and cut the Unhappy ones in half with a sharp blade - slowly and carefully. I use a box cutter. FYI: I use the smaller ones for component feet.

    I agree that spikes will "tighten' up" and solidify the soundstage.  The sub provides the foundation if that is not focused than nothing else will be.  
    You may also try mass loading the sub by putting weight on the top.  You do not need to get fancy, you can buy barbell plates and just cover them up with cloth.  This issue has been raised in another thread, I just cannot remember exactly where.

I strictly use Audiopoints under everything in my system. Mounting some screw holes for the cone threads is easy to do and can be had at any hardware store. I've tried both stainless steel cones which I thought were very detailed but made things sound a bit harsh, the the brass Audiopoints which have the same detailed presentation but w/o the harsh. With your sub, I'd use the large 2" Audiopoints. The large Mapleshade 3' diameter brass triplepoints is also a good choice but would be very easy to tip over if touched. They're also harder than hell to mount, I wouldn't want to try it with that big a$$ sub.

I must admit, I'm too chicken to start drilling into my my sub to use the threaded spikes. The non-threaded Audiopoints look promising. i was thinking about adding a bit of blutack to the spike and attaching it to the bottom of the sub. would that defeat the purpose?

What about Blue Star Audios big sandbox? Remember them?

Seriously, before you do anything, try raising the sub up off the floor about 2 feet. You may be surprised at the improvement. Then you'll have the problem of what it needs to sit on, of course.

I haven't tried it, but I recommend listening with nothing between them and the sub for at least a few days before trying the Blu-Tack.

I don't understand much about how they work, but I have to believe sticking Blu-Tack or any other such substance between them and the component(s) would have a detrimental impact.  To what degree is anyone's guess.

I have Star Sound's Audio Points and Sistrum stands beneath every audio component in my system, too.  Yeah, getting them correctly situated can sometimes be a pain, but once it's done, the improvements I hear are such that I have no desire to screw around with them.
