"For the truly adventurous, the Castanet can be used as a linestage (buffered volume control) to add a little SET magic into your system."
I don't know if I qualify as truly adventurous but I did put together a phono plug to RCA (well BNC anyway) adaptor - plugged it into the High jack and am running my amps/speakers. The 2.6dB gain is really all I need. Sounds really, really good. All the comments I made regarding the Castanet as a headphone amp apply here. Tight bass, great detail and nice highs. I'll clean up my interconnects. All I had available was surplus 50 ohm BNC terminated lab interconnects. My amps are at the speakers so I need 20 ft interconnects. I'll get some more traditional interconnect cable and build some new ones. Eventually I may bypass the Castanet volume control and use a remote control stepped attenuator. Bottom line is that I am impressed and will continue the experiments. Jim - a truly versatile product.
