itunes wav encoder
« on: 15 Jan 2008, 01:58 am »
Why no one has talk about the wav encoder of itunes?  In theory its suppose to be better than apple lossless because it does not compress.

I am setting up a pc audio system and have to decide which way to go in itunes, lossless or wav encoder. Any of the audio forum over the internet has ever mention the option of wav encoder in itunes. But for Foobar2000 wav is one of the best options. Storage capacity is not a problem, memory is cheap nowadays.

Can someone help or explain?

Hi and welcome to AudioCircle. I personally can't help you as I use Windows Medic Player and download in VBR Q90 but as a suggestion, you might have wanted to place this post in the Square Circle where more folks that are into computer audio would have seen this post. Maybe Chris (Lonewolf) will agree and move this thread for you. Computer audio still in it's infancy, it's gonna be great to see this technology take off in the coming years. It's only going to get better,,,, even tho it's not half bad now.  :thumb:

Not to debate the sonic superiority of either format, but ALAC, or Apple Lossless, is not compressed in the sense that an MP3 is. It is a lossless, not lossy, audio format. The file is compressed, not the bit rate. It is the equivalent of FLAC. (And storage can become an issue when dealing with thousands of CD's.)

I use flac more for the tag/meta data than the fact that its compressed.

Oh and just cos storage is cheap is no reason to waste it.
