Hey Sabes,
I can't offer too much advice on different preamps, but I definitely want to say HI as I also own this great amp as well.

I'm using a Superphon Revelation III, a SS no-gain buffer preamp. Very clean and fast, great bass drive. I'm really happy with the unit. But... But...

There's this VAC Standard LE for sale near me that I'm reallly tempted to bite on, thinking that I'd really like the direction it would take my system.

Let us know what you find.

Give Paul at Tube Research Labs a call - he used to make $25,000 pre-amp. Now he makes $3500 pre-amp - he could do something for remote colume control. Give him a call. It uses 6SN7 tubes - so you could tube roll to voice it with you amp.

Good Luck
Sunil.

Mike: right now i've got two extremes: a channel islands plc-1 passive and a singlepower mpx-3 headamp retrofitted as a preamp (vt-231's). neither is getting it done with the vac. leaning toward grabbing either a dodd battery pre or the new top end modwright...the amp itself is wonderful, as you know!

update: what better synergy than a VAC Renaissance MK II pre? i snagged one and am in heaven. also, sent the pa100/100 back to kevin for upgrading to what i'm told is "near-PHI" status!  of course, the fact that the pre has a killer phono stage "forced" me to upgrade my tt...this is looking like a good spring!

Congrats, Sabes-

I'm loving my VAC preamp too (no phono), although it's not as sweet as yours!

From what I understand from the previous owner, when my PA100/100 was back at VAC Kevin wanted to add to Phi input circuitry (IIRC) but it was already installed since the amp was a very new vintage. I'm sure he would have additional tricks up his sleeve, as he always seems to!

Best of luck-

-Mike
