  • ..I've got my eye on you...which one you say?
I have a B&K 5.1 AVR, about 6 yrs. old or so and it obviously doesn't have HDMI switching nor does it have all the new hi rez soundtrack processing which is available on blu ray discs.  I would like to keep my B&K and avoid dropping big bucks to upgrade to get those features.  I love the sound of it anyway.  My FP is a BenQ PE8720 with one HDMI input.  I plan to use a 3x1 HDMI switcher for video selection but that means I cannot take advantage of the imbedded digital audio information.  I am looking for a blu ray player that has the latest processing on board and has 5.1 analogue (RCA) outputs.  All the ones I looked at today only had digital audio outputs.  I would appreciate any suggestions on how to get the processing and keep my trusty B&K AVR.  Thanks in advance.

Samsung BD-P1400 Blu-ray Player

I was a bit disappointed to see that the analog outputs only support 5.1 audio. This player can decode the new Dolby Digital Plus format. Unlike HD DVD, Dolby Digital Plus is used strictly for soundtracks with more than 5.1 channels, including 7.1. If you are using a receiver or processor that doesn't support 7.1 via HDMI or doesn't have HDMI to begin with, this limits your opportunity to hear these new soundtracks with full 7.1 support.

Good luck, my friend...I just purchased a new Mitsubishi 4900 1080p projector, and I really want to add a BD player as a source since they seem to be obtaining more exclusive studio support. But every player I research has some issue to deal with, and even the BDA themselves came out and said that the only BD player worth a damn at this point in time is a PS3  :duh:  I don't really do much gaming, so I'm just not interested in buying a gaming system to watch movies.

I was looking at the same Samsung player that JRace suggested, and I still may go in that direction, but apparently it doesn't support DTS-HD MA audio. That's not really a deal breaker for me since it does have DD True HD and the analog outs, but there are a lot of people who hate how buggy the Samsung players appear to be. Even the pro-BD guy at engadget.com says it's probably best to either go with a PS3 or just wait a bit longer for these BD companies to get their act together.

I don't really know what to do...I'll probably just take my chances on the Sammy 1400 and hope it gets me through a year or so until they have more reliable players.
