Looking for VTL Deluxe preamp info
« on: 10 Jan 2008, 03:33 am »
Anything will help, especially what tubes are supposed to be installed.

I picked one up today and I love it so far but I have read it has 12au7s in it and mine has 6922s which are not compatible as far as I know. I don't know if someone modified it to use them or not.

Again, any info would be greatly appreciated...oh yeah info on the outputs as well.

Thanks!!

According to the schematic in the VTL Book, The deLuxe uses (2) 12AX7's and (1) 12AT7 in one channel so you can double that for both channels. This includes a phono stage.

There are a total of 5 tubes in it.

A 12ax7 far left which is for the phono, a big gap then another 12ax7, then 2 (in mine) 6922s, and a single 12at7.

(PS, thanks for the help)

Here is a pic of mine:

I would think the 6922's should be 12AX7's. That would give you (2) 12AX7's per side plus one 12AT7. There are no 6922's shown in DAvid Manley's schematic.

Thats what scares me and I cannot tell if someone modded it to use 6922s or not as I don't have the schematic.

It works with the 6922s so I assume someone modified it, but I think it would take more than just the 9 pin swap to make it work.
