Help me upgrade woofers please
« on: 7 Jan 2008, 06:01 am »
My cat shredded 2 woofers, again! The speakers are 8" and from VMPS RM-1's, The builder is at CES and I want to get going. Can I upgrade to better drivers? I'm sure its not that simple but maybe I can improve them. The driver has no info on it except 902-6774   76253   IMG   L51TF.  Any help would be great.

Actually, my cat is now wearing the driver basket as a permanent hat. It's a little heavy but......

Hey!

Bad kitty! When I used to have Magnepan connected in my system my cat love them! With the large grill cloth in the front, they look like giant scratching posts! Well, there are some scratch marks on them but not much and luckily no hole in the mylar inside :icon_lol:

Anyway, I think you might want to post this in the VMPS circle and email them to see if you could get new woofers from them :D

To keep your cat from playing with  your woofers again. You might want to put or fasten a cardboard or something like that in front of speaker while not in use. Also, I've heard there are cat repellent spray that they sell in pet store like Petco. No, not a pepper spray for cat but just a spray that smell bad to cat.

Well, good luck. And Oh! Please don't lock up your kitty in a cage like that. :nono:

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Yeah, I bought a replacement recently from Brian, but they are busy with the show. I thought a DIY'er might help me. The woofers played well enough but I thought I might be able to put nicer ones in from parts express and gain better bass. the problem is the passive radiator might not let me.

If we knew the specs on the woofers in the cabinet, along with the cabinet volume and PR tuning we could get pretty close.  Unfortunately, it would be hit or miss as to whether or not they would work well with the crossovers.
