What's your 2008 "Audio" Resolution?
« on: 1 Jan 2008, 05:33 pm »
Hey!

2007 went by so fast for me. Time files by pretty fast isn't it? :D Well, here we are again at a start of a new year, 2008. So, what is your 2008 audio resolution? :D

I've asked this same question before a year ago....

http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=35334.0

It is fun to look back on my last year's resolution of which is was to buy more music. I think I have accomplished it pretty well. Yes, I've bought some very nice albums last year of which I will be enjoying this year and years to come. :D

As for my system... yes I've said it there about being DIYer. True that I didn't buy any thing major for my system but I ended up modding my Rega Planar 2 turntable and turn it in to a better turntable. But the major purchase for me last year for my system would be a new $450 cart for my new modded turntable. :D

But wait! There's more! :D Last year I've accomplished one of my long time dream of owning an outside horn Victor Talking Machine. :D Of which I finally found one that I like and bought it the beginning of October as a  present for myself for my birthday last year. It is a pretty little 1902 Victor "Type E" talking machine  And this personally is a very significant thing in my life as an audiophile :D I will write more about the Victor soon when I have more time. The photo above show my the Victor and my modded turntable :D

Anyway, it is fun and good to look back and see if you have accomplished your last year resolution or not. So, for those of you who have responded to my post last year. Why not look back and tell me if you have accomplished your last year resolution? And what will be your 2008 audio resolution? Any new things you are planing to buy, upgrade or add? What else do you want to accomplish with your system for this year 2008? :D

Well, Happy New Year guys and wish you all a great year this year. :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

My only New Year audio resolution is to make more NY RAVE's for 2008. I need more exposure to high end systems (and DIY systems too :thumb:).

Quote
To straighten out all the equipment boxes I have in the basement, put them together, and label them so I know what goes where.....

Done....excellent.

So...for 2008....I guess I need to get my audio room in shape...because its looking worse than the basement looked..... :duh:

See if I can get that done in 2008....

My resolution is to build better speakers than I presently have. I'm going to try and have several Fullrange, 2-way and 3-ways done in time for the various events coming up in the Spring and Summer of '08. Also on the agenda are 2 Subwoofers that I need to build for friends.

If possible, I will also build matching wood casework for my audio componets as well, in order to have a somewhat pleasing and co-ordinated appearance and some new IC's and speaker cables. Vibration isolation and cable lifts will be on the list as well, although these are a bit further down on the list.

Well, those are my wanna-do projections, I'm afraid that my Ever-lovin' Wife may have other plans :duh:

Best Regards for the New Year!

Hey SET Man looking at your picture gallery you look like a bit of a biker. I use to race cross-country mountain bikes but not now as I don’t have enough time.

Nice Klein you have there, I have a Cannondale Killer V2000 and Specialized Rock Hopper sport. I use to do 50 miles a day back and forth to work.

I was in New York for the first time in December 2007 for work. I think I recognise some of the places you took your pic’s would I be correct in saying Brooklyn Bridge? I did a lot of walking around while I was in New York. I come from the England.

My audio resolution is to finish some projects! I finished up a few little things on a couple of projects that were just sitting waiting to be tested this past weekend and it now seems I'm on a roll.

#1-actually enjoy the gear that I have instead of reaching for Nirvana.
#2-listen to some records that I have not heard from a way back.
#3-not spend any more $$$ in audio that is more than necessary...this I think I am lying to myself.

A good one Buddy.

1.  Stop the madness; no more buying equipment that I don't need and sometime don't even really want simply because my paypal account can handle it.
2. Forgive myself when I break resolution number 1.

I'm going to MAKE my friends sit in the sweet spot and play awesome music for them. More people need to know the pleasure that is available from listening to great 2 channel. I will not let them multi-task by talking or even looking around while they do it. People need to learn how to be in-the-moment. No better way than being emersed in great music properly. The mind funk created by driving to work while talking on the phone, drinking coffee, playing the radio and worrying about money, needs to be balanced out. I hope you all will join me!

 And I thought I was the only one doing that...only in the last year has that started happening to me...I always prided myself on remembering what I had in my collection, but I think advancing age is getting the better of me lately.

My main resolution however is to divest myself of 40% of the old equipment accumulated in the last 15+years. To do this and restrain myself from purchasing "new" stuff (besides music of course) will be quite an accomplishment.  :violin:
