Looking for CD Treatment recommendations...What's are you using?

I have just run out of Auric and looking for something else: Jena Labs, Xtreme, Walker Ultra Vivid, success or failure stories, etc.

Thanks

I've used Mikro Smooth and Optrix from Mapleshade Records for several years now....

I've been using Shine Ola from Mobile Fidelity/Record Research Labs for a few years.

It came highly recommended by an acquaintance (Albert Porter) who's tried a lot of different cleaners; he claims it's the best he's ever used.

Hey dude!  I use Optrix to clean them and Jena labs paste to treat them.  Can't say I have heard a betterment, but I'm a follower, not a leader!  baaaa

Breathe on it and then wipe it off on your jeans.  Lightly blow off any lingering motes of lint.

Beware the phase-shifting Pepomints though!

Hmmmm...have some of that sitting right here....how long do you let the wax set up before buffing it off?

Wax is an additive. It is adding a layer of particles to your CD. If there are any benefits to be had, the cleaner the surface (ie, less crap on it) the better.

CD's are actually lacquered. Clear gloss paint basically.

I've actually tested stripping the clear off of CD's. Lacquer reducers (thinners) will do it. That tells us that it is not a crosslinking finish.

I have yet to experiment to see if I can lacquer over a scratched (unreadeable) CD in order to restore it's ability to playback.

I'll do it one day, and post my results....

Cheers

Liquid Resolution is the best I've tried (and only one I can actually hear the improvement).Audiogon has a link to the website.

Jena Labs 3D-X.  Works well for both CD's and DVD's, IMO.  Made music more dynamic.  Works well in my system, but I'm using a lower level Marantz CDP.  Might not work as well with a better CD player.  Haven't tried any other treatments.

You can always give Herbie's Audio Lab's Black Holes a try too.  Pretty cheap at under $5 per.  Again, it helps in my system and use them regularly.  Might not do much in other systems.

Walkers Ultra Vivid works very well for my discs.

I have a bottle of Auric but I stopped using them on new discs after I got a Bedini Quad Beam Clarifier. I still treat my 10-20 old discs with Auric before I run them on the Clarifier. They say the Acoustic Revive RD3 is even better.

Pledge Anti-Static works wonders for me.  It comes in a non-aerosol bottle.  Works better than anything else I've used, and is my favorite tweak.  My wife noticed a big improvement.  Keep in mind she rolls her eyes every time I hear an "improvement."

A friend said that it stained one of his Linn CDs.  He's used it on about 250 cds, and this was his only problem.  It didn't negatively effect the sound.

Over the years I have tried just about everything, starting with the original Finyl. For all things optical, I now exclusively use the Jena Labs Esoteric ... CD's, DVD's even Laser Discs ... It is easy, non-intrusive and produces consistently superb results. I liked Walker Vivid, but it clots up and you usually end up throwing some away.

Great replies...I have tried the Walker and liked the results but not the mess and expiration...

Shinola sounds good and I have heard good things about Xtreme products.
I'm leaning towards the Jena Labs product to try and maybe contact Herbie regarding the Hole, I luv his Halo Dampers and have used them for a years.

Demagnetize them! It works and makes more of a difference than anything else you can try!

I found a hand-held electrical mag/demag device on the internet. Costs about $70. I use it on vinyl as well with similar results. I've heard that one of those bulk tape erasers work also.
