« on: 29 Dec 2007, 07:01 am »
hi
i am looking for an active crossover to biamp an OB that rolls off naturally and bring in the bass at around 80-100hz .
freq. must be adjustable . it needs a volume/ gain control . phase ,
i don't mind if it works for more then 1 way even if that will be the way it will be used now.
i looked at the usual suspects :

bryston
looks  nice but expensive

velodyne sms 1
only mono bass , i want stereo

old pioneers ,
i don't know , they are hard to find and still need work ,(old parts?)

nht x2
seems to be my best choice at this time

marchand
very good reputation but no phase adjustment .

any help is appreciated

Here is a reasonable priced Behinger ... http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-SUPERX-PRO-CX2310-Crossover?sku=182466   ...   that may fit your needs

Also some other  good / better / best selection available at MUSICIANSFRIENDS

BehringerCX3400 Super-X Pro Crossover - $129.99
NadyCX23SW 3-Way Stereo Crossover - $79.95
NadyCX-22SW 2-Way Stereo Crossover - $69.95
dbxDriveRack PA Processor - $499.99
BehringerULTRA-DRIVE PRO DCX2496 Crossover - $269.99

I use a Super X Pro to control/set my 2 Revel Sub 15's ... I don't run my main speakers (NHT3.3's) through the Xover they run direct and i use a second output to feed the crossover for the Subs

dhrab,
I also want to run my FR speakers (Wharfedale 12 CS-AL) direct. My question is can the high frequency side of the crossover be used for the tweeters? I have the bass & treble augmenting the FR.

Hello  dobias ... I'm not sure how you are trying to run your set up  ... but in mine I have two outputs on my source Cd (I don't use a preamp ) ... one feeds my main amp and the other feeds the crossover which controls my two subs

My main speakers never see the crossover ... I only use it to tailor my passive sub

If you want to use the crossover for your mains also ... It is a 2 way with a sub out ... so you can still have control/split over your mains's  woofer/mid-tweet

Each channel has a Hi and Low out to Bi Amp main speakers and there are a Sub out channels also ... it's actually 3 way when you count the sub out

It should be flexible enough to work in many situations ... but if you are going to run your main speakers through it ...  you may want to consider a crossover of higher quality ... you can probably find more transparent units at a  much higher price points

Because the original poster was only concerned with low frequency ...  I recommended the Super Pro

I only use mine on my Subs and wasn't concerned with controlling my main speakers ... so transparancy wasn't an issue

He is a link to the owners Manuel ... should explain everything you need to know better than I

I was looking to low pass to a pair of open baffle woofers as well as a sub crossing over at about 125 Hz then to the 125 wpc woofer amp.
The full range speaker would be direct connected to it's 75wpc amplifier.
I was hoping the active crossover would allow the upper setting to crossover the tweeters at 10 kHz  to a smaller amp I would buy.
At the present I have a passive pass through of 4.1 mH to one woofer then a second 4.1 mH to the second woofer & the sub.
The cone tweeter is facing up & is in series with  a 4.2 micro farad cap.
So far so good, but my measurements are limited to using a sound wave CD & measuring the system output with an RS sound meter.
I feel like I'm working with a stone cutter's hammer & chisel. In my previous life I ran a field trouble shooting & start up department for multi million dollar industrial installations & had any & all of the instruments I could ever ask for at my disposal. You can understand my chagrin. Retirement is a challenge.
