Does it really matter why he wants to sell them?  Either you're interested or not.......but don't hassle the man for making what seems to be a well thought out decision for his own situation.

Hi Michael,

At any rate, it just made it frustrating for me to have to crank the Sig 30.2 all the way up to get decent volume, again, on some songs. 

The question is this: On those CDs that are recorded at lower levels and that require you to really turn up the volume on the Sig 30.2 to get decent volume, is it loud enough?  Do you find yourself setting the volume on the Sig 30.2 to MAX and it is still not loud enough with such recordings with lower recorded sound level?

Michael's issue here is not about having enough power... it is having enough "system gain."  In other words, if the Sig 30.2 is set to max. volume and the music is not clipping, but it still is not loud enough, more gain is needed.  The gain of his Signature 30.2 is 29.5dB.  He could change the amp with a 500 watt per channel amp with the same gain of 29.5dB, and it will still not go any louder.    

YES... the modded Olive's analog output is ~1Vrms (vs. 2Vrms of most CD players).  Having a source with more output voltage would help.  A preamp with voltage gain would help as well, but Michael does not wish to add anything in between his modded Olive and Signature 30.2.  If Michael does not want to add a preamp and is very happy with his source and amp (which is sounds like he is and I am very happy to hear this!  ), the only other option he has is to use more efficient speakers.

Michael... can you please verify that the line-out setting of your Olive music server is set to max?  This should be at position 20.  You can also use the Olive's remote and keep pressing the volume + button until the volume no longer increases.  It is possible that your output level is not set to "full output."  If this isn't the case, then what I stated above is correct.

I am extremely happy with my Sig 30.2 and the Olive Musica, both modified by Vinnie.  I have come to the same conclusion about using more efficient speakers, given my preference and my setup.  The modified Klipsch Forte speakers are back in the system.  I want to be clear that the Odyssey Lorelei speakers are awesome and worth all the praise that is heaped upon them.  This is simply an issue with my preferred setup and the efficiency of the speakers.

Yep, the Olive Musica line-out setting is set to 20, the max. 

Thanks again everyone for your thoughts and suggestions.  I am very happy with my amp and source.  I enjoyed the Lors when they were in my system on certain songs where I didn't have to set max volume.  Thanks, too, to Vinnie, who is one of the great people in audio, always endeavoring to serve his customers, innovate and keep on top of multiple forums where his products are mentioned.

Good luck with your sale Michael, I hope you don't think I was trying to hassle or undermine your sale. Buying a set of loudspeakers only to sell them weeks later can't be all that much fun and I was only trying to help find a better solution for ya. Like it's been said by those folks who have nothing better to offer,,,, it's none of my business but that doesn't mean I can't try to be helpful as were others. My apologies if it wasn't wanted.  aa I hope you're able to find a happy home for them real soon Michael.

Speaking as someone intimately familiar with the ZERO autoformers, a preamp would be a far better investment.  The bottom line is more gain is required for the RWA Sig 30 (not to mention just about any other amp) to reach full output.  Autoformers won't do that.  If you haven't got enough gain going into an amp you can't blame the amp or speakers for the lack of output.  You need to deal with the real problem.

Or a battery preamp.  Dodd makes one but it's quite costly compared to the RWA Sig. 

Battery or not, if Flashman puts a decent preamp between the Olive and RWA, he'll no doubt re-evaluate his decision to move the speakers.

A lesson to be learned for anyone selling _anything_.  NEVER give a reason, lest you be besieged by (more or less) well meaning kibitzers.  You do not need a reason to sell something.
