Jazz Hall of Famer and pianist-extraordinaire Oscar Peterson has died at age 82.  RIP Oscar.    :(

I just learned this now. I am in tears. Every jazz piano riff I know is distilled Oscar. All things must pass. I simply cannot believe my reaction to this news. I would like to add that he also was Provost of York University, and received the Order of Canada. As a keyboardist, he was the Prime Canadian.

Farewell teacher. Goodbye Dr. Peterson.

A true jazz legend, sad news indeed. Great music, and a good man. The man now rests, but his music lives on. God bless you Oscar and thank-you.

There is so much wonderful music that OP both made and recorded that stands as the true testament to the man's memory.  A favorite of mine is the duets that he recorded with Count Basie; Satch and Josh, The Timekeepers.  Perhaps I enjoy these album's so much is because it demonstrates that there is more than one path to greatness; besides you can hear the fun these two were having while they played.

Sad news but what a legacy of music. Some of my favorites are the two "Very Tall Band" recordings with Oscar, Ray Brown and Milt Jackson.

Oscar's music brought joy to my life for as long as I have memories.  He was a favorite of both my parents and I learned many great chops from his records.  Although I never met him, I knew him though his playing.  We may never have as bright a star rise again.  Good by, old friend.

Mentioned this while opening presents at my parents house and found out my father saw him in concert about 40 years ago in Chicago.  My father suprises me all the time.
