Fixed that damn hum...
« on: 22 Dec 2007, 11:49 pm »
Hi Guys,

After 2 years of trying to enjoy my vinyl I have finally fixed the hum that was in my system.

I replaced the denon dl103 cartridge with a benz micro mc20e2.  Why on earth was the denon causing hum in my system?

Btw I like the benz micro mc cartridge.  I don't think its any better than my denon dl103 except perhaps the bass goes a little deeper.  It is sure easier to use because its a high output mc cartridge and I'm now using my classic cornet that I recently had modified.

Lots of stand up carts have problems, in the wrong environment.

No hum with my Denon DL-160vdH....many cartridges are unshielded....no wonder folks abandon the best form of audio software in existence today - it's just very frustrating to get it all right :duh:

But, worth it when you do.

Good to hear you're pleased now, Rod.  :thumb: John

Hi Rocket

Boy am I happy this dragon has been slain!

Now you have buy some vinyl, at the moment I am listening to Billy Thorpe's version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", now I have to find a source for this old classic.

Hi Ian/TCG,

I'm a stubborn bugger and I'm glad the hum isn't present anymore.  It was really annoying me when I listened to my vinyl and was quite off putting imo.

I took the cornet (it was modified by bluesky) and my turntable to a friends house on saturday and he has 1000lps.  Most of the vinyl sounded so much better than the cd versions and I'm now confident I can listen to the type of music that I really like now.  I'm finding that most of the cds that sound good aren't really the type of music that I like to listen to.

I do have a couple of small problems with my turntable that I need to fix but I'll do that in the new year.

Btw it was really funny listening to my friends hifi system because half of it I have sold to him i.e. War Audio speakers, acoustic research eb101 turntable and musical fidelity preamp and I recommended the amp that he uses an N.E.W. A60.
