Dakiom - Undiscovered Gems?
« on: 18 Dec 2007, 05:56 pm »
I finally tried the Dakiom unit (the speaker level one) and I must say that I am SHOCKED at the improvement. The level of new realism in my Magnepan 1.6QRs is startling. They now sound better than I have ever heard them.  For $99, this is the best tweak ever.

At first I thought these were snake oil but a quick read of the patent indicates otherwise. I ran the patent by an EE that I work with and he was impressed. He just didn't know if they would form an audible improvement but he thought the negative feedback theory was sound.

I now must try the line level unit to see if the Dakiom units can bring further improvements.

I have the original $59 speaker and line lever units...they are mostly very, very good.  They sometimes add a bit of harshness, but the sound is otherwise improved.

I use it on my main system (cheapo) CDP and a cheapo Pioneer universal in my modest video set-up.

Big B/VMPS was using them about 2-3 years ago, I dont know if he moved on.

Mr. Dao/Dakiom explained to me that the $99 (and higher) units are built to slightly higher standards (whatever that means).  I keep thinking about buying a couple and see.

I wrote about them a few years ago as I, too, was impressed: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=7588.0

I have used them twice. They worked magic on an Adcom GFA-5500 that I had modded by Stan Warren. They did not work as well on my Dussun V8i. But you are at no risk to try them, so I would give them a whirl

I've used the older interconnect model (r203) and amplifier stabilizer to good success on a low end Denon receiver. More bass and bloom. One of the misgivings was the lack of definition and lost out on some of the higher shimmer. I also have the latest MR253 interconnect. Short in length but better dynamics than previous generations. Still, not fit for better high end equipment but a decent influence on the lower end.
