Atonement
« on: 15 Dec 2007, 06:47 pm »
Caught the first showing yesterday (very nice to have a day off on Friday...matinée, beer and sandwich for the grand total of $14), and despite the endlessly irritating gaggle of middle-aged hens in front of me I enjoyed the film. Not blown away, not amazed, but I enjoyed it. It seemed to really be riding the "Instant Oscar" train, a bit heavy-handed at times, but at others quite delicate and layered. I did not read the novel so I cannot speak to that aspect, but I'd have to imagine it was fairly accurate. Best film of the year? Hell no. No Country For Old Men ran away with that already. But worth seeing on the big screen (and something the significant other could enjoy)? Yes, and yes.
