Hey, Glenn, looking forward to those photos. Do the new panels come supplied with a means of hanging on a wall? And or, would it be beneficial to stagger them out from the wall?

Hey Mike,

Yea as soon as I can figure out what is up with my camera I will post. Ines was already making waves about wanting me to put a order in for rear speakers and the center channel and she DEMANDS it is your speakers as she loves the looks of them.  Which is a win win for both of us.

As far as hanging. We do supply the wire for the back but not for the wall. For the wall the best thing to use is a product called ooks professional picture hangers. They can be picked up at any home depot or Lowes. They are super cool as you don't have to put any kind of nasty holes in the wall or mess around with molly bolts.  If you don't want to do that you can also just use one of our stands and move them when you would like.
As far as spacing, there is no need as our panels have the 2" gap in the back so they can hang flush on the wall and still work down pretty low.

Not to put the pressure on you guys, but if you want to be in the first batch of 242 elites you better order soon. It looks like we could have a back order before the first ones go out!!  aa

Glenn:

Sounds like a very successful product launch, and well deserved! How long a back order do you anticipate? I'll still need to work with you and Bryan to figure out the total "plan" for the room etc. AND decide on fabric blah blah blah (too many decisions, too many contractors, too little time ).

At this time it is looking ok, but if there is a back order it would only be a week or so.

So... if I build wood frames to wrap around the panels I already own will it cause problems with the effectiveness? Since I have 12 of them replacement isn't exactly an option. :)

Hey Mike,

Certainly perforations, or even completely open sides (on your acoustic panel) will increase the total absorptive area. However, this may not be as significant as once touted by some. Surely, it cannot hurt to make your sides open, but having completely closed sides, plus an absorptive area in front (and back if possible) is far better than having no acoustical treatment at all. If the look you are going for includes wood (hopefully treated to decrease potential fire danger) then, I say "go for it". A room treated with good acoustical absorption materials can mean the difference between good, and fantastic.

Good luck with your project!

Mike,
Hope all is going well for you and looking forward to seeing you again next year at RMAF. For panels like the 242 it is not as important as the sides are only 2" of absorption. But for a 4" panel I would be worried it could start to knock down the performance of the product. So for the 242 panel you have (2" panel) it would be fine.
Hey BTW finally got my squeeze box hooked up. How did I go all this time without it?  :green:

Thanks Glenn, I have (I think) 8 of the 2" and 4 of the 4". I may just leave them as is but I had to ask. :) My new listening room should be done in early January, so I'll actually get to use all of them. Most are stored away in the basement at present.

BTW if you do want to do the 244s in wood, just make sure you open up the side by cutting away wood. It really does matter to have the sides as open as possible. Some people are asking for our 244 with wood sides and that is how we will do it. IF WE DO IT.  I have a feeling that the pillar will replace any need for it. Well lets say I hope...  :P

Speaking of RMAF, notice the GIKs in the corners. This pic doesn't show the panels at the sides or the diffusers in the rear of the room. all together, really made a huge improvement in room sound:

Glenn, here's the next room for you to be thinking about. The ACI Listening Room #1 and a place to showplace what GIK can do for a room. I have a plan I want to follow involving careful steps listening and measuring "bare" etc. But start thinking about how we will most effectively treat this room. Take your time, I have lots of hot irons to work on right now before I'll be able to fully focus on this step. Bryan is already talking about a possible road trip :)

Hey Mike,

WOW that is going to be one really cool room. Could you list the size and maybe some more pictures of it? I would like to see the back of the room.
Actually email them to me also if you would.

Glenn:

24.5' X 14.4' X 9   I'll try to shoot some more pics this weekend including the rear.

How far out from front wall would you put the Sapphire XLs as the starting point in this room?

Just so you know, my BASIC plan is to start w/ this room BARE. Then, we'll work from there with some existing stuff I have to get more baseline before doing it right with your stuff.

Good idea Mike.  I like to get the speaker/seating placement optimized first in the bare room and get that as good as we can first.   That tells us what specific issues we have to deal with from a frequency response perspective in addition to the usual decay time things to address.

I'd probably start with the speakers about 3.5' out from the wall but you know your speakers better than I do.

Glenn:

Here's the back of the room. The computer stand in the left corner can be moved. And yes, we still have some baseboard and door trim work to do.  :D
