Elusive Disc: Pre-Order List, Hi Rez
« on: 20 Sep 2003, 03:36 am »
Just got my E-letter from Elusive Disc, looks like some interesting stuff coming out:

SACD: David Bowie (including "Ziggy Stardust" and "Let's Dance"!), Bob Dylan, Creedence, Michael McDonald, Aaron Neville, Lang Lang, Maynard Ferguson, Art Pepper, John Hiatt, Carmen McRae, Hank Jones, Jennifer Warnes, Ray Brown Trio, Michael Feinstein, David Sanborn, Brother Jack McDuff, Cal Tjader, Vaughan Williams, Bill Evans, Gil Evans, Zoot Sims, Wes Montgomery, Monty Alexander, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Vince Guaraldi ("Charlie Brown Christmas"), Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan.

DVD-Audio: Jackson Browne, Diana Krall, Flaming Lips, Neil Young (five titles), Marvin Gaye, Greg Lake, Kansas, Canned Heat, 10cc, Billy Squier, Sonny Terry, Big Country.

   ******************************************************

Especially interesting to me is the 5, count 'em 5, Neil Young DVD-As!  Since Neil is a huge fan of DVD-A, I was wondering when he'd get around to this.  Wonder which ones they are?  If I could pick, I'd want Harvest Moon, Freedom, & Live Rust.  He could surprise me with the other 2.

Nice update.  I was just looking for any word on the Rush sacds.  Any word on Led Zeps-How the west was won?  I thought it was coming out on DVD-A then I saw it as DAD at CDUniverse?????

Is that the complete email?  If not, could you forward me a copy?

Thanks,

Hmmm...I'll see if I kept it.  That was the bulk of the MC stuff, but not the whole list, I don't think.  I'll get back to you on that.

Not sure about Zep's HTWwW.  I don't wanna buy the CD is there's a DVD-A (or even a DAD) around the corner.

I read a while back that there was a slew of Rush slated for release, but I can't find the place I saw it & I don't recall which albums.  But really, would it matter?  I have my faves but any Rush would be good.

Looks like aside from the actual releases of the week, that's the only preorder list they have.  Not that there isn't new stuff coming, that's just all they are accepting preorders on, I guess.

Wish there was a bit more specifics on which albums, but I'm just glad to see some new content on the way.

DAD  is a DVD compatible stereo disc containing 2 x 24 bit PCM tracks.

I like JohrR's answer, though...

So it is two channel then, right?  With Led Zep's hard l/r stereo recordings on their earlier albums, not sure I'd like to see what they would do with 5.1.  However, this would be a live recording and some crowd noise and a little reverb might be interesting for 5.1.

Personally I am a bit tired of all these classic rock recordings being done on hi-rez.  I want to see some post '90, preferrable 00+ recordings done in hi-rez that aren't jazz or classical.   I want to see Radiohead, Tool, Flaming Lips (would have much preferred SACD, oh well), Ryan Adams, White Stripes, etc, etc done in hi-rez.  Stuff that isn't too dated, rocks and has a great recording to start with.  That would finally sell me on keeping my SACD player (or DVD-A player).
