Connecting dvd to sp2 - confusion with inputs.
« on: 13 Dec 2007, 11:10 am »
Hi all,

I have a pioneer 989 dvd and wanting to know how best to connect it up to my SP2.

I currently have it connected in the following manner:

1. Analog Stereo RCA into CD Input
2. Toslink into DVD Input with SP2 OP set
3. 5.1 RCA into 5.1 Input

Is it correct that via 5.1 connection that the pioneer is doing the processing and on toslink the sp2 is doing it. Which is the best way to do. Do i get true 5.1 effect via toslink?

Whats the best method to watch a dvd movie :)

Cheers,

Julie

PS: wishing the SP2 had more toslink connections :) Is Coax inferior to Toslink?

Hi Julie,

You have it setup correctly.

On the CD analog input use the 2 channel Bypass when listening to CD's - (hit save on the remote once bypass is selected)

Coax is better than Toslink -(with toslink you have two more conversions going on.)

The RCA 5.1 from the DVD player is an ANALOG output.

The 5.1 from the COAX is a DIGITAL bitstream- that is the best way to watch DVD movies.
