19" BP-26 different from rackmount BP-26?
« on: 11 Dec 2007, 10:10 pm »
I finally took delivery on the BP-26MC that I had ordered back in July. Seems Bryston's been very busy this year (a good thing).

I ordered the 19" rackmount version, but what I got was a 19" faceplate with no rackmount holes. Same with the power supply.

Did my dealer screw up? Am I supposed to drill my own holes for rackmounting? What I don't want to do is send the preamp back and wait another 4-5 months for a replacement.

I'm guessing I could order proper rackmount faceplates, but that'll cost....

Anyone familiar with this situation?

Cheers,

Joel.

Hi Joel,

The C-Series products including the BP-26/MPS-2 are not available in RACKMOUNT.
C-Series preamps are available in 17 inch or 19 inch faceplate but no holes in the 19 -it is just a style thing.

With the BP26, if you have to rackmount it then the only way to do it is with a 17 inch faceplate and add rackears to the sides of the cabinet - even then it is not a 1 3/4 inch true rack height - it is 1/2 inch taller. Is it going in a rack?

The amplifiers are available in a true Rackmount version but they are not styled like the C-Series.

Hi Joel,

By the way can I ask what dealer you ordered the BP26 through - BP26 orders are usually out within 2 weeks of order so getting something now that was ordered in July is strange indeed.

James,

My dealer is McCulloch Audio. I've been a loyal customer since Bill sold me my first stereo (AR turntable, Shure cartridge, Dynaco amp and speakers) in the early 1970s.

Yes, the preamp and power supply are to go in a rack: an old ex-CBC McCurdy Industries stand that houses my Technics turntable. Can I obtain 17-inch faceplates (I have rack ears from another project) and would they be user-switchable--or is it best to send the units in?

Cheers,

Joel.

It is user switchable but you will need our ears to match the screw holes.

Contact Mike Pickett at Bryston.
