Emerald Physics CS2's in the house
« on: 7 Dec 2007, 08:11 pm »
My CS2's just arrived and made themselves at home along with the Bella Extreme 3205 and Odyssey Mono SE's.  Just getting 'em warmed up now but here are a few pics from my gallery.  Tom

Man,,, that's one sweet setup you have there. There's obviously no woman's touch been done to that room.  :D  That's total audio oriented and nothing else.  :notworthy:

Respect!  :thumb:

Cheers,
Robin

Yes, I am very fortunate.  This room is all MINE!  I have a great and very understanding wife too ;-)

Yes, I too wished I had a room all to myself...no TV, no WAF, etc...but I don't...so, I'll have to live through your room.... :duh:

Anyways, how do they sound????

Pretty much like they did at RMAF (which is really good) ;-)

They are literally still chilly from being in my garage and I just kind of plopped them down right in front of the Merlins.  I won't have a real measure of their sound for awhile, but I can say there is nothing quite like OB dipole bass :-)

I look forward to hearing any comparisons you can make between the CS2s and your Merlins.
Merlins are a favorite of mine and I know them pretty well. I didn't get to hear the CS2s at RMAF.

Hi Tom,
Nice looking setup you have there

I assume you are running the custom Bella EXtreme 3205 on the tweeters? Just curious how the noise level is.

I don't believe there were any noise issues, but we will need to hear directly from Tom.

I think the Bella is plenty quiet, but I'm still chasing down some a buzz elsewhere in the setup.  I'm new to the 100db sensitivity world, so need to be a little more fastidious about the wire layouts  :o  This will be a weekend project for sure.

Tom
congrats!
I also have the Merlins. Please post the differences you hear. Are they equals though being at different pricepoints. Are you using the Candela with them?

Nice room!!!

Please be gentle with me.  It's going to be little while setting up the CS2's, trying various combos, and coaxing the last bit of goodness out of them ;-)

I've spent a couple years with the Merlins and feel like I'm finally touching the point where I really see what they're truly capable of.  Over that time, I tried quite a few things that didn't work well and they don't hesitate to let you know it right away.  They ARE fantastic speakers in every way and I do like them a lot.  Then there's still the MXe lead free mod I haven't done yet because I simply fear shipping them back to NY safely :(  Maybe some day I'll do a road trip to visit Bobby  :thumb:

I DO think comparing them will just be to point out how each one is compromised in its own way.  Among many of these very best speakers it just comes down to trade-offs and taste, as well as what it takes to get you personally involved in the music (dancing, finger snapping, singing along, or whatever floats your boat).

At the moment, I'm using a bone stock SB3 digital in to the DCX through the transformer MGalusha recommended, so the Candela is just chillin'.  My SB2/Ultimate PS/Burson is back at Wayne's getting a valve job and a tuneup.  Since the DCX has a lot of room for improvement, I'll be on a path to modify it fairly soon as well.

More to come...
