All these "winner" awards and stellar reviews don't mean anything.

Everybody and their dog is a professional reviewer.  And every month there are new winners and new accolades.  Blah, blah, blah - who gives a crap?

Danny, as you are an insider you must know how things like this work, quite often, not always but quite often, a great review hinges on certain conditions between two willing participants.  Deceit and dollars sleep together and all the lemmings bow down and worship.  It's really a stupid affair.

The only people with credibility are end users like the average Joe here on AC.  People who pay money for a product and are satisfied with their purchase are of far more value than all the elephant turd published by countless self appointed authorities with dubious agendas.

Is this the same speakers shown during the recent RMAF07???

If so, then it sounded real good.... especially when powered by Belles amplifiers.. 8)

Danny, send me a pair and I'll give an honest review.  Better yet, send me 4 of those 12" drivers you designed with Brian Ding and 2 of his amps and I'll do a review

I'd do an "honest review" too, as long as I don't have to return the product.  No wonder there has been a proliferation of "professional" reviewers," all trained and qualified by their ability to publish.  Yeah, right!

No, that's just the reality of the industry.  That's how things work.  And the average Joe consummer doesn't know.

I don't think there is any chance of that happening.

Yes it is. And they did hit a lot of lists of favorites from show goers.

Wind Chaser, I won't argue with you that there my be some reviewers out there on the take, but you can't throw a blanket over the whole industry as dishonest because of such speculation. There are a lot of honest reviewers out there. Most get nothing for their efforts other than getting to spend some time with new product for a while.

And those stellar reviews do mean something. It means sales.

One thing for sure is that if a ton of reviews are all great, and every on line and print magazine gives it an award, then it could be genuinely good. It should also tell you that if you are looking for a speaker in that price point then it might be worth listening to. You can make up your own mind.

I have not heard the new BE718's but have spoken with a lot of owners. The word across the board is that they are an exceptional product. Many of my customers purchased these speakers after I recommended they go audition them.....That's the key, they actually went to their local dealer (or a friend's house) and listened to them along with several other options so their decision was based on a listening experience rather than the words of the media.

I have always found the Usher speakers an exceptional value and still recommend them to this day even though I am not a dealer for the line. The 718 was always my favorite from the line.

I heard these in the Oracle room at RMAF, and they were impressive.

I don't think so.  25 years ago back when high end was in it's infancy a distributor of very expensive gear went on the record to say that this was their experience.  Just yesterday I had a lengthily conversation with a manufacturer about this same topic.  Nothing has changed.  While I think it might be safe to assume there are some honest reviewers out there, many of them think certain arrangements are justified because it's you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.  Some people will just come out and say, that's the cost of doing business.

And that's what matters most to you as a manufacturer.  However integrity is what matters most to a consumer.  Don't get me wrong, I'm just an idealist living on the wrong planet.

I have learned from the past that the only opinion that matters the most is my own.  There was a time I'd buy gear based on a favorable review or a number of favorable reviews without first hearing in my home on my system.  Not any more, I wouldn't do that unless there is the option to return it for a full refund.

Danny,
A friend of mine recently had the opportunity to give these babies a listen and he said they have some of if not the best finish work he has ever seen
on a set of monitors, he said they "look like a million bucks". I'll let him put his thoughts here but I know that he was smiling when he came back from
listening to them. :thumb:

Now that's what I call meaningful.  Word of mouth advertising is the best, most relevant and cheapest form of advertising there is.

Look at all the buzz on Emerald Physics... where are all the "professional reviews" and paid advertisements.  Haven't seen any them yet.

Danny, just so you know this isn't anything personal against you or your work.  Just in the last week I had a few people PM me here asking me for more info on YOUR products because of the NICE things I said about them here on AC and elsewhere.  If you want, I'll send you the comments and exchanges that took place between me and them.

Marbles,

I read that thread and agree with most people.  That's what I like about AC, there are some intellegent people here. :D

Wind Chaser,
I would agree with you there but was it really necessary to come in here an crap all over his thread? Do you build/design anything? If you do then
you probably know that when you design and/or build something most any awards mean something to you, and to have someone come in and say they all mean nothing....well it just isn't right. I'm not trying to attack you so please don't take my post as so, I guess what I'm try to say is take it easy and like Mom used to say; "If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all."

John,

Yes I have designed, built and sold speakers in fact.  A happy paying customer is priceless.  When they go out of their way to tell you how much better it is than product X it replaced, I'm over the moon.  However for a long time now audio has been an industry of backroom negotiated deals for publicity.  That's BS and more people ought to know about.
