Help identify these amps....
« on: 2 Dec 2007, 04:36 pm »
Local auctioneer just posted pics of these amps & reel.  I will not have a chance to preview these but will be able to attend the auction.  Can anybody identify the amps in the bottom of the pic?

Thanks
c.

They look like McIntosh amps. I'm not enough of a Mac junkie to know which ones but I'd bet dinner that they're Macs. :) Hmm, looking again maybe not dinner but they do look like old Mac amps.

Depends on what's for dinner.  Mac was my first thought too.

The second amp looks like it might be a Citation II, from Harman Kardon.  If so, it is rated at about 60W per channel, and is thought to have one of the best output transformers ever created.

Yep, the black amp is a Mac. Can't tell from the pic. The amp to the right looks like it might be a Stromberg Carlson from the colors. The preamp (I don't see any output transformers) to the right is likely a Fisher. It for sure isn't a Scott. The preamp below with the gold face is most likely a Heathkit. That one has the style of knobs they used to use in the kits plus the older ones had a gold face to try to look like the Scotts and Fishers.

Thats my guess anyway.

Thank you for the input.  Any idea what Mac this might be, MC60?

Thanks again, you folks are most useful :thumb:

the mac amp on the bottom left is an mc-60, for sure.

the amp on the bottom right is definitely not an hk citation ll.  it looks like a fisher 55-a

the preamp on the bottom is a mono fisher, 80c or 90c, most likely the 80c, but the pic ain't wery clear...

the preamp below that avant-garde turntable/cassette/receiver rig looks to be a fisher, but i can't find it anywhere, & the knobs don't look right, so i am not sure.  it might also be an integrated amp...

Thank you very much Doug :thumb:

Can anyone comment on what would be a rational amount to spend at auction on these amps.  More than likely I will not be able to test them but the auctioneer will say everything works well, yea right   The purchase of these will essentially be a crap shoot and I'm amp heavy already.

Thanks again

check ebay.  there's an & an mc-60 pair 80c f/a right now.  also, check closed auctions, email the fisher doctor, ask on audiokarma.org, vacuum tube valley, audioclassics, audio asylum, etc. - places where lotsa folks are familiar w/wintage gear...
