ONEAC CP1107 with a Felix?
« on: 2 Dec 2007, 12:32 am »
Hey Guys

I want to try a Felix in my ONEAC 1107 (7 amp) isolation transformer.  It will be used ahead of a BPA200 chip amp.

My question is...should the felix go on the input side of the transformer or on the output side?

Here is a picture of the ONEAC in question:

Thanks for any input!

After the isolation Tx is safer. But either way, make sure it is after the breaker.

Thanks Josh.  Is the there a difference in effectiveness with the two locations?

Guys

Finally got around to building it.  Haven't finished hooking it up or mounting it in the ONEAC, but here are the pics:

and

and in the ONEAC

How does it look??

Jim,

As you're using a JWMiller 8120 CMC (its truly sad that I can recognize it), rated for 17amps, I'd put the Felix in front of the isolation transformer, and run the source components off that, with the higher current draw amps connected to just the Felix. In my system, I run my Soraya 100wpc amp off a Felix, configured almost exactly as yours, built into the middle of its powercord. Though I constantly hear that powerconditioners constrain dynamics, my Felix, in my system, doesn't and offers substantial improvements.
From my limited comparisons, I personally don't feel the OneAC or Powervar isolation transformer offers any additional improvements when cascaded before or after a Felix, and would suggest you you try various configurations for yourself. If you want to provide isolation between components, a separate Felix(s) using a Miller 8109, rated for 3 amps can provide that additional isolation, as well as stronger filtering  between source components and amps.

I'm assuming the caps on the long leads are the smallest of the bypass caps. If so, you'd want those caps closest to the CMC, and if you need to have long leads, you have them on the largest of the caps, so as to minimize the lead inductance where most important.

FWIW,
Paul

JDUBS,  Why not strap the Auricaps across the bottom of your board?  You'll have the shortest leads possible from there.

Paul and Gordy

Thank you very much for the feedback.  My thinking of adding it to the ONEAC was to utilize the housing more than anything.  I.e., I was lazy and didn't feel like making a housing for the felix by itself.

Thanks for the info on the Auricap location.  Will cut the leads down and mount the caps to the bottom of the board, right next to the CMC.

Thanks again, guys.   :thumb:
