Not sure what to get - VH Audio Hot box, Brickwall or something else?

I'm short on outlets (have two sets) and because my audio/video share the same room, I am having to plug my Candela pre and Anthem pre/pro (for HT) and everything else into a Belkin PF60, and am looking to add more "clean" outlets for a few months until I can afford an Equi=tech ot BPT.

I have a pair of Odyssey Mono Extreme XE's, and understand they perform best when plugged straight into the wall which they are now.

This leaves me with one outlet left which the Belkin and another device use, and I don't wish to continue to use the Belkin for some of the other audio gear currently plugged into it.

I have thought of adding a Brickwall or two, but worry the filter might have a negative effect on the Monos and Candela, and be no different than the Belkin I use now?

I've just learned of the VH Audio Hot Box and wonder if this would be a better solution?

Thanks,

Mark

Check out BPT's CPC too.

You just missed a couple great deals on used units.  I almost bought them myself.

I had a brickwall, I don't recommend it.  I have a Risch box that I bought used instead of a hotbox.  I'd go with the hotbox.  I don't plug my amps into the Risch box, with the exception of my Panasonic digital thing.  It was not good for my SET and PP tube amps.  I've never tried a big SS on the Risch box.

There are a lot of choices for more money, the maddening thing is that even though the boxes kill amp dynamics, the amount of detail unveiled is impressive.  Some time I'll try a big boy regenerator/RF shield etc...

But until then, I'll live with a little more bounce and air and less detail.

  • Who you callin' an audiophile?????
I run my Stratos Extreme off a PS Audio Duet and it sounds good to me. Allows me a few extra outlets for Hammond 193L and such. I use a BPT PPC (6 outlet all-copper chassis strip) off of my BC Music ring (cuz I have to much digital gear) and it's a very nice unit.

I just picked this no frill power strip up for under $32 as an extension to my BPT. Nice little strip that has had a lot good press written about it and seems to be a favorite with the non-power conditioning group. This strip is going for double this price at Wireworld & Ebay.

I have the Brick Wall and DO recommend it. It does not change the sound.
My system is very quiet.

I power my entire system through a pair of SurgeX SA1820 units. I've never noticed anything negative regarding my Bryston 7B SST amps. It may have had a positive effect on my office system, but too subtle to be sure. Brickwall, SurgeX and Torus Power all use the technology from Zero Surge.

That's kind of along the lines of what I was thinking for the OP.  A power strip.

In my case, I use a Hammond 1580T10A1:

The outlets aren't hospital grade, but they are quite tight and there are ten of them.  Hammond also has some with hospital grade; up to eight outlets.

No filtering etc.  Just outlets.

This $59 power strip on A'gon right now for $25. If you're thinking about a power conditioner in the future, this 9 outlet strip is just the ticket for now and later when you do finally get that conditioner.  :thumb:

I have to also endorse the Brickwall suppressors. I ran them with some pretty beefy high current amps and sure as heck had no problems with dynamics. They do a great job with line filtering as well. You just want to make sure and get the model designed for power amps which is PW2RAUD. As mentioned the Brickwall and SurgeX are pretty much identical.

Promitheus Audio make a nice distributor.
Another option is the Oyaide MTB4/6 which uses the R1 sockets
