My Marantz 2270 receiver died tonight (vintage 1976).  Looking to replace it with something of decent quality.  It had a phono-pre which is important for my vinyl collection.  Want 2 channel only, not interested in Home Theatre.

Considering current NAD C325BEE, Denon products, Sony products.  Looking to purchase new, but would consider nearly new.   Want to stay in the $500 or less price range.

Any product or specific model recommendations that you have had experience with?

Dan,

I remember my Marantz 2216 fondly....loved that gyro tune  :)

I've found dual mono to be really helpful with vinyl playback (in particular).  The short signal paths (also great for vinyl as it is prone to much noise) of a receiver and dual mono is hard to find, nee impossible to find among modern offerings, today.

But there was a time just before the 2270 was made when Harman Kardon made twin-powered (two separate power supplies in one case).  There was the 330 and 430 models (among those I know).  I don't believe I have heard them, but due to dual mono architecture alone, and their reasonable prices used these days - it might be worth the shot  :thumb:

If you're not handy, a local service center could proabaly swap out old caps and possibly even get the tuner back in spec for $200 (dependent on where you live, how much they charge and how much is done).  Then again, you may just like it right outta' the box - no changes.  Ciao - John

The 2270 is highly sought after by those into vintage audio, especially if it is in the original wood case.

Are you sure the receiver really died? Of course, getting a replacement is always fun.

I have a 2226B myself that I got half a year ago because I wanted a gyro tuner in a silver case with blue lighting..... Oh, and the sound isn't half bad!
