Recommend basic HT processor under $500

Edit:  bumped price range to $500, and still looking for help

For our "cabin", I am looking for an HT receiver for this situation:

--> Want AM/FM with simple intuitive "turn a knob" tuning.  My wife (who supports my audio habit bigtime) listens to the radio a lot and hates pushbutton digital tuners.

--> Since the whole family will be using this system all the time, it needs to be easy to use.

--> At most, I may someday run 5.1; initially it will be 2.0 audio.  The speakers are Parts Express BR-1 monitors.

In my main system at home, I am very happy with the Pioneer VSX-1014-TX receiver which some of you recommended a couple of years ago.

Thanks for your help,
Peter

Hello Peter,

Honestly, I would give you a big "good luck" on finding a newer receiver that will have "turn a knob" tuning on it, unless you are interested in getting an older, used receiver.

I loves me some Harmon Kardon receivers...Been doing it for years, and they make good quality high current receivers that are easy to get around.

You actually would have a lot of options in this price range. Important additional questions to ask is how many/what kind of inputs are you looking for? Sounds like just 2 channel stereo for now, but it would be a good move to do some forward thinking purchasing. The Onkyo 605 has been killing it lately. Lotsa features at a great price point:

Another great receiver...A bit outside your price range, but all around great recevier:

Marantz kills it...Hope I helped a bit!

I own the Onkyo 601, from several years back. It is a great machine, even good high end sound when run in direct mode on hifi speakers, lots of 2ch power. Pushbutton tuning, but still very easy to use. My 5yo has no problem. Internal 2ch DAC for music playing is shit while 5.1 digital in sounds excellent.

I got mine from Crutchfield. Not the cheapest price, but I like their service. bhphoto and J&R are usual sources for cheapest price, they have good service too.

Shop Onkyo often has great prices on refurbished units with full warranties you just have to check all the time for prices and availability.  Also if you sign up to club Onkyo you get a 10% additional discount.
