Frank,

I first heard of your work when the Absolute Sound recommended the "Van Alstine modification of the Dyna 400", or maybe it was called the "Double Dyna 400", in the '70's. At our high end store at the time, when asked who you were, they told us a colorful story about you and then probably tried to sell us an Ampzilla.    You introduced me to a 30 year client of yours at RMAF. So how did you get the word out and how did all you long time customers get hooked up with Frank?

I discovered Frank's work and products in the mid-80's from a small ad in the back of Audio magazine.

Well let me see, I think it might have been the same time as Martyo,Yay Ampzilla, I wounder how much of Franks work is in the Ampzilla? Like the Dyna 416 is copy of Franks Double 400. I saw an early Ampzilla built in a Dyna ST 400. Anyway through the 80s I had different pieces and was never really happy and in the 90s I just gave up on HiFi. Then one winter day a few years back I think it was about 10 below and there was not much to do so I dug all that stuff out and had a listen, and then it all came back to my why all that stuff was in the crawlspace! I said then for my 50th berthday I going to buy my self a real HiFI set! So I started looking at some of the stuff from  companies I remembered from the old days like Mark somebody, The brothers Johnson, Nelson who. Well it did not take much time to see I could not afford stuff like this. I was sitting there looking at my Dyna 416 and  said what about that guy Van Alstine! So I went on the net found Franks site read Audio Basics (many times) and ordered a T-5SLR  my first tube piece(I can still see Martyos face when he first saw the T-5 with the top off with no phone) and went on and got a 550EXR6 and a T-R DAC. I think Franks stuff is right up there with the best! :smoke:

A friend at a hifi shop sold me his old "Jensen's" FET-5 Mark-2 in, I think, the mid-70s.  Well constructed, lucid and musical - everything a dyna could be if properly constructed.  That same chassis has been upgraded a couple of times, and is still in daily use as part of the HT.

I also used to be an avid AB reader, and actually tried out several of Frank's mods and tweaks.
