Vincent integrated and Marantz CD player
« on: 28 Nov 2007, 06:08 am »
I have a local dealer that will sell me a Vincent SV-236 integrated for $1500 and a Marantz SA 8001 for $750. I'm fairly new here and need some expertise. I like the idea of a hybrid amp but don't have much experience with them. I'll be driving a pair of VMPS RM-30's. I like most everything except rap and electronica. Looks are important to me as well and the Marantz is ugly but I hear great things about it. The biggest thing I want to avoid is treble glare and harshness but I dont want to spin vinyl. Any help would be great.

I don't know about the Vincent but I do know that some hybrid amp sound very nice.  I have an Audio Aero Prima MKII hybrid and when I bought it I compared it to at least 10 different integrated that were between $1000 and $2500.  Obviously, to my taste, the Audio Aero beat them all but the funny thing is second choice was also an hybrid, the Unison Research Unico.  I think it's because the tube stage in those hybrid amp adds a nice flavor to the sound.  You can also look in the used market, my Audio Aero was selling over $2000 when it came out but sometimes I see one for sale around $1000, same for the Unico.  Have fun shopping.
