Killer CD, Roger Waters

The CD is "Amused To Death" and the music is incredible. Very political lyrics which are just a poignant today as when they were written. The sonic are just flat amazing and I never tire of this CD. No commercial cookie cutter music here. This CD will show what your system will really do. Try it out you will love it.

I agree!  I own this album too, and it is..... shall we say .... different?  Like any type of music, this may not be for everyone.  This album isn't really a toe tapper.

The album is mixed in q-sound and the 3-d sound effects emitting from a two channel system is pretty wild.

TV channels being flipped from the left rear, then a channel is selected and it sound like the tv is behind you, thunder rolling from the behind, crickets and dogs barking all over the room, some evil voice played backwards from the back of the room etc..... all from two channels! ..... Crazy!

Yeah, this is my favorite CD to put on when I have a new victim who wants to see what Hi-Fi is like. On the first track it starts off with a dog barking that sounds like its at my neighbors house to the right. So I restart the track and their eyes bug out. I have heard this CD hundreds of times and still find new stuff on it. It's very musical though and the guitar work by Jeff Beck is great. Spread the word, there is so much crap being produced now that you have to go back in time and find the gems.

If you haven't already, try the In The Flesh DVD - it's my favorite all time concert DVD.
Most people see David Gilmour as the PF front man, but I would guess that if they list their favorite tracks the majority of them would come from Roger Waters as it was his internal angst that drove their creativity.  I fall asleep watching and listening to DG's recent offerings, whereas RW continues to extend his creativity.

Just my $0.02
Or my halfpenny.

Thanks, I will buy it. I'm getting into live recordings more and more. By the way, I went to the Roger Waters "dark side of the moon" tour in the San Francisco area and it was by far the best concert I have ever been to. It was also the best sounding rock concert as well. Thank god somebody finally cared about the sound! I'm really hoping for a live release of this tour. I will NEVER forget it.

I agree completely.

Since Waters left, Pink Floyd started sounding like little more than David Gilmour solo albums. Not that that's bad, as Gilmour has done some decent stuff and I love his guitar playing, but it's not Pink Floyd if you know what I mean. A little too processed and "commercial."

Also check out Waters' Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking. Has some great searing solo guitar by Clapton.

Kind of funny. Clapton appeared on Pros and Cons and Jeff Beck on Amused to Death, and both of them give performances that are better than most anything I can recall their ever having done on their own.

Thanks, I will buy it. I'm getting into live recordings more and more.

Then also check out Roger Waters performing The Wall, live at the Berlin Wall. Has a very eclectic list of guest performers.

Interesting point, I had noticed that about Beck. Waters must just bring that out in a musician. At his recent concert here the entire band seemed to give the performances of their lives and they had been touring for months. It blew my mind.

Wow, that '03 thread was ugly, OK at first, then ugly. I happen to love the music and the lyrical content, the sonics are just icing. Listen to what this CD is all about. I removed the TV from my kids a year ago and it was the best thing I ever did for them. Again, the political views are very interesting, and the music rocks, and I love the dogs and crickets.

The whole Waters vs Gilmour thing is very interesting. I think they kind of needed each other to temper the excesses that each is prone to...without DG, Waters gets a little inaccessible, preachy, gimmicky. Without RW, David Gilmour gets way to pop-ie.

I find the post-Waters Floyd stuff to be kinda fun but largely forgetable. Conversely, I think The Wall is the classic it is because the heavy-themed Waters stuff is infused with those great Gilmour bits like Comfortably Numb and Young Lust.

Kinda like Lennon and Mcartney...without John, you get Silly Love Songs. But without Paul, you get The Ballad of John and Yoko.

I agree as well, spot on.  The whole is greater than the parts in the case of PF....

That has been said a million times. I don't want to flog the "post Floyd" thing anymore. The Wall is in my top twenty CD's of all. So is Amused To Death. Didn't care for Roger's other works though, musically that is. Gilmore's stuff isn't my bag either but something about Amused stays with me and has for almost 20 yrs.

ATD is definitely a keeper....I love Gilmour, but his solo stuff has left me shrugging, I thought the best thing he's done solo was his first DVD with the acoustic Shine On and the choir on Coming Back To Life, nice version of Comfortably Numb on there as well....

Having listened to Amused To Death thru a few times, this  is by far the best Pink Floyd album since The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon.

I'm a big fan of Floyd's album "The Final Cut."    At least generally speaking,  how does it compare to ATD?   I'm interested to hear any comparisons as simple or as complex as anyone wants to offer up....

I have The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking on vinyl by Roger Waters. The cover has a naked chick with her back exposed, hitchhiking. This album reminds me of the Final Cut with a lot of Floyd stuff going on in the background. The fidelity of the album is also incredible.
