D200’s and Tube preamps
« on: 22 Nov 2007, 09:38 am »
Hi Guys,
How many of you are using the D200 with tube electronics ? How friendly are the D200’s with tube preamps ?
I have a Marantz 7 clone (very refined one at that) and was wondering how these will marry with the D200’s. Is there
a way to get the power switch to the front of the monoblocks ?

A friend of mine uses Audionote M2 pre with the D200s. No problem with the matching.

D-200's work great with an AVAT7ECR preamp. I like that combo.

D200 has 100kohm input impedance, so any normal preamp can drive it. Tube preamps are usually below 1.5kohms so no problem.

Dusty, the D500 sounded fantastic at the show. Congratulations. Looking forward to learning more about it, seeing some reviews, etc. Good luck with it. It was nice to meet you finally.

Unless I misunderstood your question, the D*200 power switches are in the front of the monos. Blue lights for "ON" and amber lights for "Mute" (or standby).
As for tube matching, I have tried the D*200s with the ModWright 9.0 and the combo sounded very good. I believe Dan Wright likes the combo too! I think in general class D amplifiers are quite easy partners to mix with tube preamps.

I'm driving my D200's directly with a Raysonic 168 tubed cd player, with built in volume control, and I couldn't be happier.

I have driven D200's (and D100's) with three tube preamps: Modwright (excellent), PrimaLuna (even better), and Dodd Battery Preamp (the best yet). The amps are very linear so what you send to them is reproduced in the speakers without editorial. No worries.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the responses. Looks like the CA200 works well with tube preamps.  :D

Hi Denjo,
I was talking about the power switch which is located at the rear of the amps. My setup requires me to turn on the power amp last. Is there a way to mute the amp from the front without manually handling the switch at the rear ?

That is what I meant in my earlier post! I have posted a url link of a photo of the D*200 for your use. You will see a little button placed on the bottom left. Simply press it to "mute". When your Marantz 7 is turned on and properly settled, depress the same button and you will see a blue light. Hope this makes things clearer!
