Oyaide/Furutech/etc. AC Receptacle Question
« on: 17 Nov 2007, 05:01 pm »
I just posted this over at Audio Asylum, but hopefully there isn't too much overlap in user base. :P

My power setup is currently using two power cords with Oyaide P004 / C004 connectors, and I have three receptacles to pair them with; one is a double cryoed Hubbell IG5362 receptacle, one is the latest furutech gold receptacle, and one is an older model furutech silver receptacle.

Between the three receptacles, I can't find a combination I'm satisfied with. When I use the hubble and the silver receptacles, the bass is nice and controlled, the sound is focused, the midrange tone is a bit cold, and the highs are forward. When I switch one of them to the gold receptacle, the highs become more laid back, the soundstage expands but becomes more diffuse, the midrange becomes warmer and more inviting, and the bass becomes boomy.

Swapping between the hubble and the silver receptacle, I notice the silver's highs are a bit more forward, but thats about it.

I love the mids of the gold receptacle, but I can't stand the out of control bass. Any suggestions for a receptacle on the warm side with controlled low end?

Thank you,

Biggie.

You might want to consider changing your power cord terminations to a gold Oyaide P004 / C004 for a gold on gold connection. Or stay with a Beryllium on Beryllium connection. I think mixing termination metals may be your problem and you'd be better off matching metals for system synergy. just a thought,,,,

Sounds like you should try either Furutech copper-plated receptable (http://www.cryo-parts.com/fururec.html )
or Oyaide R1 Beryllium receptable.  If money as no object, P004/C004/R1 combo would be logical choice many people have already tried with success.

I am sure you will get the "all Oyaide all of the time" full court press over at AA. Maybe there is a suggested match with your power cord that would be recommended.

I have used P&S spec grade and now use the new Furutech copper outlets and Furutech male/female ends on my Cryo Max power cords.
Neutral, slightly warm, and tight extended bass, good highs, nice mids. No complaints and they seem to let the components perform. Not really looking for a sound out of outlets or PC's to be honest. I want them to let the sound through.

But.......I am of the opinion that power cords and outlets are an adjunct to your components so maybe evaluate those first for the sound you want.

I've used cryoed P&S and gold Furutech, but the Oyaide R1 that I now use easily outperforms either of them.  I also use the p004/c004 connectors on my homemade VH flavor 2's.  It's uncanny what difference a seemingly insignificant ac receptacle is capable of making.

I have found the P004/C004 combo to produce clear/transparent mids, softer highs then silver/rhodium plugs, and large bass that carries a really nice tightness and heft to it. Is the r1 just going to add to these same sonic characteristics?

I think that would be a safe assessment.
