electronic crossovers
« on: 16 Nov 2007, 07:23 pm »
I noticed from another thread a company called 'SHRED MUSIC'. browsing through their catalog, I noticed an electronic crossover, 'soundbarrier' stereo 2/3/4 way for $150.00
http://www.shredmuzic.com/product_p/201-994.htm  :o

has anyone experience with this, or similar?

gotta say "Shred" and "Soundbarrier" are not the most encouraging choices of names for devices I want handling my audio!!

Zip, I LOVE your signature.  Me too.

All 3 are OB including the bass.

Oh, buck up, Zipi, you too can make 'em!

The eight 4-Ohm drivers are wired in series/parallel.  First wire 4 in series and the other 4 in series.  That gives you 16 plus 16 Ohms.  Put those 2 in parallel for 8 Ohms.  My finished version will use 9 drivers in s/p for 4 Ohms-- 3-each in series for 12 Ohms and those 3 in parallel for 4 Ohms.

Mr Chimp, I am not sure if you are trying to Xover subs to mains or not, but if you are, I found this creature a fantastic investment.

All the best, and keep experimenting, that is how the learning is best done!

This device does not seem to support stereo subs though - they speak of two mono sub outs, albeit with different high cut frequencies to each. Presumably, each sub out is a sum of the stereo in.

As you can see from this schema, it is not that hard to modify the Reckhorn for stereo bass if your a bit handy with electronics.

my idea was to adjust the tweeter cross, to tailor the highs to my OB. on another thread, i mentioned replacing my fr with a dome, and how the sound did not improve. my stereo sub has internal adjustable XO from 200 down.

this first project was done on a whim. after new years, I'm gonna do one proper with an Alpha 10" and a good full range 4 or 5 incher, mimicing the project done by -Richard- but a tad smaller, and with decent woodwork. thanks for the help.
