So Danny, etc... What do you think would make a great studio monitor?  Since we have plenty of clean amps.... I'd rather buy/build a nice pair of speakers to use as monitors then buy powered monitors.  More cost effective anyhow.

The answer to your question is simple. Anything designed by Danny will be a great monitor. Which one just depends on what your room requires. The important thing is the neutral frequency response. Danny is consistently good at getting his designs to sound very neutral.

I have built and owned a number of GR speakers. I will be using OB 7's with dual powered subs (the new GR servo subs) in my own studio.

The OB series have the added resolution and detail ideal for critical studio work, are very dynamic, image beautifully, and with the subs, will be full range.

You couldn't ask for more.

I can't tell you how pleased I am with the sounds I am able to engineer now since I use your speakers. I've worked on or owned a lot of well know studio monitors. JBL's, Yamaha's, Genelec's, Tannoy's. Nothing comes close to how neutral, clean, transparent the GR speakers are.

I don't care if that sounds like a shill. I'm honestly over the moon about my speakers.  If they didn't perform as well as they do, I wouldn't use them. Period. I can afford just about any commercal high end monitor I want. It's such a pleasure to work on them in the studio.

I've mixed a few things on my Diluceos in the past, and I am amazed how transparent they are.  After several years of ownership and daily listening, I have no idea what those speakers actually sound like.

I assembled a lot of Diluceo's and they were easily among the most neutral flattest measuring I have ever seen. Every pair I put together measured as flat as a pancake.

The Diluceos are DCd does the current MTM replace it? Also what is the typical in room of the OB5 and 7 with the better woofers? Also what is the sensitivity of both.

There was no specific replacement designed for it, but the OB-5 and OB-7 do take it up a notch on the performance scale.

I have not saved an in room response of the OB-5. As a ported speaker it goes much lower than the OB-7 (low 40's). Here is an in room response of the OB-7 (sealed box).



Same speaker but with M-130X woofers:



Both are 91db on the sensitivity scale.

Thanks Danny, I assume those are OB7 in rooms and if Im reading right the standard woofers are slightly smoother in the bass and the upgradeds are slightly smoother in the mids with a little more low end. Im just trying to figure out which direction to go. Does the upgraded woofers in the OB5 go lower than the standard woofers?

They are actually the same other than the low end. The X woofers do have more bottom end output.

There are no upgraded woofers for the OB-5. All of the woofers in the OB-5 are the M-130/16's (16 ohm woofers). There is no X version in 16 ohms.

Thanks Danny, One little bit of confusion still on your site it says the OB5s dont go as low as the OB7s. Your previous post seems to indicate the OB5s might go lower- could you clear that up for me please. Thanks.

The OB-5's don't go as low as the OB-7 Plus. It has powered subs built into them. The basic OB-7 does not go as low.

The problem was that the OB-7 (with built in powered subs) became the OB-7 Plus when I introduced the version without the built in powered subs (now the basic OB-7). I edited my site to correct the confusion.
