Lets say for the sake of arguement that you had a sonically perfect pair of interconnects. Would it be better to place them between the source(cdp)and the preamp or between the preamp and the amp?

My system is much more sensitive between the CDP -> preamp than between preamp -> amp. Not sure why but this is what I have observed.

This isn't really an answer, but in my system if I had such a pair of cables the would go between the source and preamp.

You might have the perfect interconnect, but you input and output stages are all still different. So which i/o is this cable perfect between?

How do you know the cable is "coloring" the sound?  Maybe you selected a cable that is transparent enough to let your preamp or speaker cables  paint an ugly picture.

In my system, my most transparent cable sounds far better inbetween my preamp and cdp than my amp and preamp. It is most definately one of the more audible differences I have experienced in my system.
