Spectron Audio offers factory upgrades to the owners of Musician II & III Amplifiers:

Musician III - Signature Upgrade
==================================
As good as standard Musician III is the Signature Edition is head and shoulders better, particularly in the midrange where fidelity of representation of timbral texture is comparable to that of the best tube amplifiers.

Signature Upgrade consists of totally redesigned power supply with 100 filtering capacitors, redesigned input stage, redesigned reconstruction filter and RF filtering circuit, more acurate feedback circuitry, improved current transfer and improved vibration control, highest quality coupling capacitors as well as number of other improvements. The upgrade results in:

a) Increased bandwidth from current 60 kHz to 100kHz;
b) ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) is dropped more then 20 times,
c) SNR (estimate) is increased by about 10 dB.
d) The new ultra-low distortion level practically, does not change with output be it 1 watt or full output of 600 watts.
e) Peak power is more then 3500 Watts per channel over 0.5 second providing vastly increased headroom.

Its sound is described as:

"Soundstage dimensionality and resolution, aspects that I had previously lauded, had improved—especially the amount of detail the Musician III Signature managed to retrieve from the deepest recesses of the stage.

Micro-dynamically this was a more colorful amplifier—particularly in the upper octaves. Anne Sophie Mutter’s violin had more depth in the tonal and dynamic shadings. The action of her bow as it moved across the strings revealed volume distinctions, textural details, and transient information that were previously not as well communicated.

In the low end, the Spectron’s already excellent bass extension also received a retuning. The bass... was reproduced with a combination of transient speed and thick, chocolate-like resonance, as if each string-bass note has been sweetened with a greater portion of color and air than before.

... the piano’s note-to-note articulation was cleaner at both ends of the keyboard, especially during the slow fade of the closing notes, which she holds with the sustain pedal. "

Musician II - HYBRID PLUS Upgrade
================================

This upgrade is, in essence, creation of practically new product - Musician II Hybrid Plus. This new amp is based on yours Musician II which will be 1/4 refurbished (mostly its very good original power supply)  with 3/4 boards being replaced. The HYBRID PLUS upgrade includes the heart and soul of Musician III Signature Edition - new redesigned "digital" modules.

The resulting sound is way better than that of Musician II and very close to that of Musician III Signature. Veil is gone, holographic depiction of soundstage expanded. Bass is deeper, richer and with greater slam. The specs are also very similar to that of Musician III Signature. Naturally, the look is still an elegant Musician II look.

Probably, the best part is that Musician II Hybrid Plus comes with a FULL 3-YEAR MANUFACTURER's WARRANTY. Considering that new Musician III Signature Edition cost is $6,495, it's the best deal in town!
