Epiphany II review by Affordable Audio
« on: 2 Nov 2007, 08:48 am »
Hi guys

Affordable Audio has a great review of the Epiphany II in their november issue.

Here is the conclusion which I feel is a pretty good one:

"No matter what music I threw their way, the Epiphany II always kept my foot tapping along to the tunes.
Bearing to mind all that you get for your hard earned coin, I feel that the Epiphany II delivers the goods where it counts
the most. Highly recommended!"

Very nice reading indeed. Congrats to Klaus and Alex.

Brian

To the author of the article: I believe the name of the speaker is "Epiphony" (not "Epiphany").

Thanks for the comments folks.   :thumb:

Jose - I will call Klaus and get the official word on the proper spelling. The funny thing is, a google search did not yield any consistent spelling!

A funnier thing is that when I tried to go to the Odyssey site to subsequently peruse the speaker page, I got the following message, "No web site is configured at this address."

I just got off the phone with our German-American friend, who claims to be working on the new site.   Meanwhile, I received confirmation that the initial spelling was indeed; Epiphony. Thanks for the alert, Jose! I will get on the horn with our publisher to make the changes. As an aside; Klaus seems to not care how its spelled..  Hell, the way I see it - the  official site is not up yet.. which means there is still time for the Epiphany spelling to catch on..

As the winner of the original naming contest for this particular speaker, I assure you the original spelling was "Epiphany" as the dictionary points out... however, it got changed along the way likely by accident and the new name stuck.  Perhaps it is more fitting, as "-phon" tends to reflect something aural.  Sort of an amusing tidbit I guess... :P

OK,  I finally would like to comment on the review here.  I want to thank Sean not only for an honest and straight forward, well written review,  but also for the dedication he showed.  I have not had a reviewer shown this much attention, communication, and also curiosity before.  Very, very nice.

Now,  as far as the Epihany's are concerned,  Sean is right on.   It is absolutely, completely, 100 % the way I feel about music,  and I probably have to repeat myself again and again here,  but.

1. Emotions.  You have to have goose bumps on your favorite music.  If you don't,  and if you can't get lost in the harmonics and beauty of the music,  then you either have a wrong synergy in your system,  or you like it overly analytical.  Nothing wrong if that floats your boat,  but it is 180  against what I try to achieve.

2.  Soundstaging.  I am an absolute sound stage freak.  The sound has to be full bodied, and extremely wide and deep with exact spacing in between.  Once you truly heard the complete "disappearance" of speakers and walls,  how can you not get hooked ???

3.  Tonality.  For me the biggest kiss of death of enjoying music is fatigue.  This comes mostly from high end problems,  sibilance, brightness, disorientation,  etc.  You can't cut off the highs,  energy still has to be there in full force,  or otherwise the performance is not palpable, and also,  you're looking at a host of problems with the sound staging issue.  It has to be natural,  woven into the fabric of the music,  harmonically correct,  etc.  Only in a system that has these traits are you able to truly kick back and enjoy hours music,  forgetting about the components.

Ultimately,  who cares about amps, speakers, cables,  etc.  My belief is that these are vessels for the music,  a means to an end,  BUT  in order to get there, you have to understand as to what you like,  who you are.  And if anything,  my idea of enjoyment are quite nicely reflected in the Epiphany's, trying to accomplish this for under $ 800.

Now, as of November 24,  I will have 2 pairs ready for a US travelling tour.
Anybody interested ??

Late,

Klaus

Epiphany II sounds exactly what I am looking for, I take they it they would synergize well with a Stratos, right? I'd love to audition a pair if they go on tour, and am located near Pittsburgh, PA.

Thanks Klaus

The Epiphany II's are very special transducers. They speak with a distinct character that I predict, will soon become a music lovers delight.

Thanks for all the kind words Klaus. A special kudos must also go out to Alex; the Epiphany II's creator, and Mike; the Epiphany II's assembler. Job well done boys.
