FS : Bob Brines FT1600MKII $550.00
« on: 1 Nov 2007, 07:15 pm »
With a heavy heart, i'm putting up this wonderful speaker up for sale to local Dallas-Fort Worth buyers.
I'm moving to a new apartment within the next couple of months, and will lose my listening room ... and i'm forced to cut down the number of speakers i have. My wife also has refused to allow any speakers in the bedroom, so there is no place where i can put these.

The driver used is FE167E, and bob brines has come up with a wonderful design that goes down to almost 40Hz. Its based on Martin King's transmission line. Paired with the vista audio i84, they sound beautiful.

I had bought the flat pack from bob, and built them myself. The rosewood veneer was put on by a local cabinet maker, and then i finished it with waterlox gloss tung oil finish. The speakers are very heavy due to their unique construction ... and i don't have any packaging material. So there is no way i can ship unless i can find some strong shipping boxes.

Asking for $600.00 obo

Expect more of my audio stuff to go on sale

Beautiful speakers! Wish I lived near by.

I can vouch for Cacophonix though a real good guy to deal with.

I think my heart is heavy seeing these be sold.

Thanks for plug, Gary! :thumb:

It pains me greatly to put these on sale. I'll build another pair for sure once i move into a house. Its crazy how good these are. I always associated single driver speakers as being all mids, and nothing else. But these speakers proved me fully wrong. The bass is very strong, and highs are extended. Pity my new apt layout forces me to put these in the market.

Right now, all i'm doing is moving between apartments. With the subprime market going bust, the apartment rents have gone up big time. Mine went up 30% forcing me to move out :(

Where do you live?

How long do you expect to be in a smaller place?  Could you find some place to store stuff until then?  Heck, I'd temporarily "adopt" them, but I don't live near anyone.

This pains me too, as I own the first pair of Bob Brines FTA-2000 speakers (the big brother of the FT1600 Mk II).  I can vouch for Bob's/MLK's designs.  I'm a huge fan of single driver/transmission line design.  Every time I look at another speaker it ends with me "waking up" what I already have and the price paid.  Bob's stuff (full bass with single drivers) is hard for either the "straights" or single driver fans to fathom.

Yeah it is a shame you must sale these speakers. I would be willing to store them in a spare room for you as well, if you were near. I'm also another big fan of BB and MLK designs. I've had mine longer than any other speaker I've previously owned and there's no end in sight.

They are the only pair of speaker's I've had in my house that do what the specs claim..no exaggerated specs. To date they are still the most well balanced single driver speakers or speakers period I've heard in my house.  Good luck with the sale. :thumb:

At the sale price I can't think of anything that could possibly compete!

I'm in Plano, TX and will be in a smaller apt for about a year. And after that i'm hell bent on buying a place for myself. Just can't take any more moving.  :x
I initially thought of moving all my speakers (Selah SSR, OB5 and FT1600MKII) into the storage room, but i already have enough boxes and other stuff to fill that place fully. Plus, its kinda hard for me to put these wonderful speakers away for almost a year. I'd rather let someone else enjoy listening to them.

So people, don't be shy ... make your offers!  8)

If you like them so much, put them up for loan on the North Texas audio groups.

Then you haven't heard enough of the right ones.

All in good time. Lemme try other avenues first, before going down that road.

Could very well be. My statement was based on the ones I'd heard till recently. If there is a SD speaker within reasonable size (behemoth horns need not apply) that can sound as good or better than ft1600mkii, then i'm all ears.

To quote two examples from memory  (and excluding single driver horns), .. If we're talking single driver designs, my top pick would be a mass loaded transmission line with Jordan JX-92S which will get you down to the mid 30 Hz area for instance, while still being smaller than your FT1600 (BTW, .note typo in your ad. heading), .. at the cost of efficiency.

So will a number of designs for the (expensive) fostex F200A

In any case, they're your speakers so it's up to you. My point being if you like them, selling them should be your last resort, rather than the first.

I agree too, great speakers!!
I have had mine almost 2 years now.
They would be a bear to ship but not impossible.
When I moved here to NC from MA I spoke to Bob on shipping boxes.
$50 he quoted for the materials. All you have to do is remove the bases.
He has not had any shipping problems since the beginning when he started
his venture.
I hope this helps a bit.

Again, well worth the $550.

Good Luck

Thanks, bacobits1!

If anyone outside of DFW area are interested, then i can check with Bob and pack the speakers for you.

Like many have mentioned, these are wonderful speakers.
