Technics need a new turntable
« on: 30 Oct 2007, 06:34 pm »
technics SL-1200 35 years old, 3 million units sold.  technics needs to upgrade this unit. or bring back
the SP 10 turntables.  the technics SL-1200 and the mods are good for the price.  why can't technics
offer a more superior DD turntable?

Probably because there aren't enough vinylphiles left to purchase a new TT from them.....Matsushita (Technics parent) is wholly disintersted in catering to small markets like audiophiles.  It's just not the aim of any $20 billion corporation  :o

Let's just be thankful they still make the 1200, okay

let's not give technics a pass.  the DJs saved the technics SL-1200.  a lot were sold to the DJs.  time for
technics to redesign, upgrade, update the SL-1200 for the 21 century.  time to offer a model with no arm
and a model that can accomodate many different arms.  let direct drive live again!

Hi xsb,

Once the SL-1210 has been fully KAB-modified, and you fit a decent cartridge, there's not much difference in performance when compared to an SP-10. I know because I've recently compared my KAB-modified SL-1210/Denon DL-103 Pro set-up to an SP-10 with an SME V/Audio Note Io, in a Sterling Broadcast plinth, and whilst the SP-10 was better, the difference was fairly marginal and not what might be expected given the SP10's reputation.

Does this mean that the SP10 isn't as good as its revered reputation suggests? No definitely not - it's an awesome T/T. What it shows is just how good a fully KAB-modified SL-1210 is!!

Oh and to answer your question, yes the DL-103R works great with the SL-1200/1210 once some small modifications have been carried out. I have a standard 103, a 103R, and a 103 Pro, and they all works superbly on my 1210.

Marco.

Hi Marco,
what is this small mod needed to make the Denon 103R compatible with the Technics?
