When I did this mod I only put one Sand Pebble ceramc tile 7.75"square by 5/16" thick in each midrange chamber. I put the tile in the far back with one end angled at the top back corner with the sand pebbles side facing the back side of the speaker driver.                                                                                I'm going to cut out the side walls of the tweeter chamber next.  There is no tweeter chamber in these speakers, thats ok they sound damn good !

 After listening more, these speakers sound better without the sand pebble tile in the midrange chamber....they sound best with nothing at all in the chamber. Now I'm waiting for the (all new BOSE 901) to come out to compare them with the DCM's......

That took some guts, those are new speakers, aren't they? Where did you get the idea to do that and what kind of improvements are you hearing?
Hopefully you can post some pics at some point. It would be interesting to see exactly what you did.

Apparently you people didn't read the initial post - WORLD REFERENCE!!!  Doesn't that mean anything anymore?  Why elaborate beyond that, it speaks for itself and is above questioning.  Therefore, no questions please!  Show a little respect.

Seriously, please don't encourage him.

Or . . . from the DCM website:

This tower contains a 6 1/2 Kevlar midrange coupled with a 30mm teteron tweeter to provide you with an excellent acoustic experience.

Two glass fiber cones located below the midrange and tweeter on the 45-inch tall speakers provide high damping capabilities for accuracy beyond belief!

A perforated radiused steel grille encloses the cabinet internally being braced by a 1" thick MDF front baffle that reduces unwanted vibration and standing waves. The performance of the TFE 200 is enhanced by the 5" x 1-3/8" port which responds to low frequency rather than port turbulence.

So, it's a ported box at $499/speaker which performance became world class once same speaker became open baffle.  Right.

It must be the clever little clocks (he claims to have 2) that makes everything in his room sound world class.

Alot people think that the KEVLAR MIDRANGE DRIVER is the BEST midrange driver on The MARKET. I'm a believer now after I cut out the side walls of the kevlar midrange chamber! Everything sounds more like the ((REAL THING)) and less like SPEAKERS NOW!! I CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO MUSIC NOW!

Hifisoundguy,
You really need to stop. You're living in a little fantasy world posting your nonsense all over the internet and I really think you need to get some help. Seriously. Get some help. It's not a good way to go through life.

Update on his mod.......I cut the top and back wood off making this a true open baffle speaker. Now there only the front baffle with no wood around the midrange. This improved things even more!

Well...my dcm's are sounding better now I put hookup wires from the midrange driver down to my speaker cables......I did same from my the crossover board out to the speaker cables. This midrange driver sounds AMAZING with no crossover cap in its path! I'm done looking for speakers now..... I used woods yard master patio cord from Wal-Mart for hookup wire...... http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/whitelightning/moonshine.html  AFTER YOU HEARD A OPEN BAFFLE SPEAKER YOUR NEVER GO BACK TO A BOX SPEAKER AGAIN! ....back to the music now.......                                                                                  Latest  update.... I cut off the corners on the top part of midrange baffles.... I marked off 2 3/4 inches at the top of the baffle.....I did this on each side of the midrange driver and cut them at a angle....now the top of the speaker looks more ^ shaped......This improved things even more....drawing you into the music even more!                                                                                     Another UPDATE!  I made the top part of the midrange baffle more rounded in shape.....this was better! I'm done with the mods now.........LATER!                                                                                                                                                         I THINK OF THESE MODIFIED DCM'S AS MY MAGGIEVANDY SPEAKERS NOW......!
